Mr. Wick broke the rules. I trust you understand the repercussions if he survives.
~ The Adjudicator to Winston.
We can keep this up as long as you'd like, but this only ends one way.
~ The Adjudicator.
Do not make the mistake of thinking you exist outside the rules.
~ The Adjudicator to the Bowery King.

The Adjudicator is the main antagonist of the 2019 action film John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. A different Adjudicator serves as the overarching antagonist of the Peacock prequel televison series The Continental: From the World of John Wick. They are a representative of the High Table sent to see to John Wick's death.

They are portrayed by Asia Kate Dillon in the John Wick films. Another version of the character was portrayed by Katie McGrath in The Continental series, who also portrayed Lena Luthor in Supergirl and Morgana Pendragon in Merlin.

John Wick[]

Following the death of Santino D'Antonio, the Adjudicator was dispatched to the Continental Hotel. After examining the body of Santino, the Adjudicator informs Winston that he will have to step down from his position as general manager of the Continental due to having aided John Wick by delaying his excommunication from the Continental by one hour. They later visit the Bowery King to inform him that he will be forced to step down and close up the Bowery because he aided John Wick by giving him a gun and seven bullets to kill Santino with.

After John Wick initially escapes from the assassins chasing after him, the Adjudicator visits Zero and instructs him to go after John Wick.

Later, after Winston refuses to step down as manager of the Continental and John Wick refuses to kill him, the Adjudicator has the High Table's status as a neutral area revoked and sends in Zero and teams of the High Table's most well-trained assassins to kill him. However, John Wick and Charon manage to kill all of them. After the first wave of assassins have been slaughtered, the Adjudicator phones Winston and proposes a truce. The two meet on the rooftop of the Continental and Winston manages to convince the Adjudicator to stay in power by stating that even if the High Table takes the Continental, they won't be able to hold it due to his connections across New York City. However, when John Wick walks up onto the roof, the Adjudicator questions what will be done about him, to which Winston simply shoots John and lets him tumble off the roof and into the street.

However, when the Adjudicator attempts to have John's body recovered, it is discovered that he has vanished. Informing Winston of this, the Adjudicator warns him of the consequences.

Like Iosef, Santino, both who came before her, and the Marquis Vincent Bisset de Gramont after her, she too underestimates the threat John poses to the High Table, and writes him off as a nuisance at the end. Assuming he does kill her between 3 and 4, that was a fatal mistake.

Trivia[]

  • The Adjudicator is the first and only main villain in the John Wick series to not be killed off.
    • Despite this, it is slightly implied that John Wick hunted them down offscreen since they are not seen in the fourth film.
  • They, along with the Marquis de Gramont (the villain of Chapter 4) are the only main villains who don't physically fight John Wick.
  • Just like their actor Asia Kate Dillon, the Adjudicator is a gender non-binary person who uses they/them pronouns, which are used within the film and its promotional material.
