Are we nothing but prisoners to our sorrow?
~ The Artist

Carmina Mora, better known as The Artist, is one of the playable killers in Dead by Daylight. She was a well known Chilean painter who created surrealist art to cope with the loss of her younger brother.

Appearance[]

The Artist appears as a tall woman with pale skin, long black hair, with eyes of a bird, more specifically, a crow and black liquid streams from her eyes and mouth. In place of her severed hands are liquid, like ink formed into crude replacements. She also wears a tattered red dress with decorative pieces resembling feathers made from leather.

Biography[]

Born in a coastal village in Chile, Carmina Mora was the older sister of her brother Matias. They were left under the care of a verbally abusive father who blamed Carmina for her mother leaving them. She has a passion for art and she sketched the landscapes of Patagonia while feeding the crows that lived in the tree next to her house.

One day, Matias, whom their father was supposed to keep an eye on while Carmina rushed to the phone, drowned in a nearby creek. She was left crippled with severe guilt and self-loathing, causing her to lose her will to create art. Life without her brother had no meaning. On Matias' birthday, Carmina attempted to jump off a bridge several blocks away from home, the local nicknamed the spot Death Leap. Before she made the jump, a murder of crows, suddenly appeared and began to encircle her, they stared at her and she stared at them confused but felt as if the crows cared about her well being. Giving life another chance, Carmina was inspired by her ordeal and used the experience in her work. She launched her black-ink surrealist art, which became her signature art form.

Several years later, she started painting large scale murals on street corners, adding poetry to it. Her performances drew the attention of other local artists and she become close friends with them.

Her performances launched the Large-Scale Surrealist movement and she become known enough to attract the attention of a multinational enterprise, the Vack Label. She investigated the group and discovered that they gifted art pieces to select disreputable congressmen and the artists seemed to disappear afterward. She worked on a giant mural depicting the company as a grim reaper harvesting the fields of Chilean families, which sparked controversy and caused a wide array of death threats.

Carmina and her close friends moved to her childhood home to seek refuge, only to be kidnapped by masked gunmen. She awakened to find herself seated in a chair with her hands and legs bound. Her friends were lying on the ground bound as well. A man dressed in a long dark robe with his face hidden in a hood approached her who recited a hymn in an unfamiliar language while holding her hands and then used a knife to sever her hands and tongue. Carmina was overwhelmed by uncontrollable rage and grief as she screamed, and a flock of crows appeared and began tearing the man apart. As the crows pecked at his flesh, Carmina smiled, watching her surrealist art coming to life. The crows, then, uncontrollably began devouring her friends as well, leaving her with more guilt and rage.

During her final moments, a dark fog engulfed her, allowing her to enact her bloody revenge on the survivors trapped in the Entity's realm.
