Felonius: Whoa, whoa, whoa, wait! So our dad was a villain?
Dru: No, no, no! Not just
a villain! One of the greatest of all time! He was known as the "Bald Terror"!
~ Felonius and Dru Gru talking about their father.

Robert Gru, also known as The Bald Terror, is the overarching protagonist of Despicable Me 3, the third installment in the Despicable Me franchise. He was a legendary supervillain, the late father of Felonious and Dru Gru and the ex-husband of Marlena Gru.

Appearance[]

Robert appeared similarly to his sons, except that he wore a gray jumpsuit and was bald with blonde sideburns. On the Gru Family Tree, he had curly black hair with a horseshoe moustache.

Personality[]

Robert seemed to take great pride in his status as a supervillain as well as his villainous family legacy. He was especially proud of his son, Felonious in having followed in his footsteps, but was disappointed in his other son, Dru, who tried his best to please him but never lived up to his expectations.

Biography[]

Biography[]

Robert came from a long-line of supervillains, who used a pig farm in Freedonia as their cover, and thus became one himself. He established himself as one of the greatest criminals of all time, becoming known as the "Bald Terror". At some point, he married a woman named Marlena and sired twin sons named Felonious and Dru. However, soon after the twins were born, Robert and Marlena went through a bitter divorce, with Robert taking Dru with him while Marlena took Felonious. They also agreed to never let the boys know about the divorce, so Marlena told Gru that his father died of disappointment soon after he was born and never even mentioned Dru.

Robert attempted to groom his son, Dru to become a successful supervillain like himself, only to be ashamed at Dru's incompetence at the work. He was, however, immensely proud of Gru's accomplishments at villainy.

Legacy[]

By the beginning of the third film, Robert had died of unknown causes, leaving Dru to inherit his estate and other belongings. Determined to prove himself other than a failure, Dru sought out his brother, Felonious Gru so that they could become a great villainous duo. However, Gru had reformed and was dedicated to doing good instead, so Dru decided to become his brother's arch-nemesis instead.

Powers & Abilities[]

Robert was a skilled supervillain in life. He had access to many highly advanced gadgets and a specialized vehicle.
