| ~ The Baron's final words before his transformation into a Chimera in front of Kyle Crane. |
Dr. Marius Fischer, better known as The Baron, is a character and the main antagonist in Dying Light: The Beast. He is a scientist for the GRE and one of the individuals responsible for the creation of the THV (Tachytransmissive Harran Virus). He is the second archenemy of Kyle Crane.
Personality[]
He is a brilliant but ruthless, arrogant leader with a manipulative and power-hungry personality, shaped by his ambitions and family's history of unethical experiments. He is a cold-hearted scientist and CEO who believes his actions are justified by his goals, which include controlling a powerful army and using the Harran virus to his advantage.
Origins[]
Marius Fischer came from the Fischer family, who were well-known for practicing witchcraft and unethical experiments to unlock psychic potentials in humanity. Fischer used to be a brilliant psychiatrist and biologist, who was the CEO of a large pharmaceutical corporation owned by his family, Fischer Inc. He collaborated with the GRE to weaponize the Harran Virus, resulting the creation of the THV.
After the Fall, he used his vast personal resources to conquer and enslave a town called Castor Woods to continue his experiments on the THVs and kidnapped multiple people as lab rats, including Kyle Crane. He also built himself a vast army of mercenaries to protect his assets and operations. Many towns folks of Castor Woods were enslaved as forced laborer, or serve as experiments (e.g. Exiles and Chimeras).
Dying Light: The Beast[]
The Baron used Crane as a "lab rat" for his experimentation and he aimed to create an evolved form of the human race in the form of Sentient Volatiles, of which he intended be the ruler. He manipulated the GRE into sharing their research on the THV, in exchange for him continuing to fund the GRE, to further his goal and plans to betray them when the time came.
When Aiden and Spike failed to rescue Crane, The Baron captured Aiden and discovered his past: when Waltz experimented on him, which made him a far better candidate for his experiment than Crane, and planned to dispose of Crane. However, after Aiden escaped and went on a rampage in the facility, he deliberately let Crane escape to test the effectiveness of his experiment on him. He unleashes several Chimeras on Crane, with Olivia manipulating Crane to harvest GSB: the biocatalyst created by the Baron. They are artificial molecules with enzyme properties designed to enhance the performance of the DNA of living beings from them to enhance Crane's strength, and make his blood produce a more refined serum that The Baron needed. Because he told Olivia that he will cure her father.
Later when Crane was tracking Aiden in his beast form, the Baron made Florence betray Crane for him when she led the Baron and his soldiers to ambush Crane in the cave. Fortunately, Crane fights through the soldiers and frees Aiden Caldwell from the captivity, enabling him to escape during the scuffle. Crane goes after Florence for payback and appoints Jacob as the new leader of the Town Hall. Jacob reveals that there are a group experimented test subjects like him called the Exiles who escaped the Baron long time ago but Florence banished them from the group.
When Aiden went to the Baron alone to prevent anyone else from getting hurt, but was captured. The group attack the castle and were all captured during the assault. During a supper, the Baron reveals that he manipulated everything to field test his experiment on Kyle, and to recapture Aiden. He then proceeded to kill both Spike and Dr. Camino Marin, but Lydia conducts a psychic attack on him, buying enough time for Olivia to break free and injure him, then free Lydia, Crane and Aiden. He then proceeded to inject himself with a serum made from Crane's blood to enhance his strength. Now freed Kyle and Aiden were more determined then ever to end their enemy's reign.
As he is about to escape with the GRE helicopter, Kyle and Aiden catch up to him leading to a fierce battle, during which he uses a grenade launcher to shoot at them, while summoning special virals with enhanced strength to overwhelm the duo. With Lydia's help in mind-controlling the infected, Kyle and Aiden manage to subdue him. However, Aiden has to go back to rescue Lydia after the Baron's men attack her. The Baron then injects himself with the serum he made using all the GSB from Crane's blood and turns into his Chimera form.
Eventually, Crane successfully defeated him with a powerful drop kick, causing him to fall on the top of a hill below, then he finishes the Baron off by impaling him with a metal pipe.
Legacy[]
Crane and Olivia were grateful that the Baron was finally no more. However the helicopter commander reveal to be the handler that Crane talk to during his time in Harran, revealing the GRE are still active. The couple and Aiden, made their duty to stop the GRE.
