The Beast is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Brother Sum) of the 2004 action-comedy film Kung Fu Hustle.
He is the most dangerous person to have ever lived and possesses extremely good kung fu fighting skills to confront his enemies.
He was portrayed by Leung Siu-lung.
Biography[]
Willingly incarcerated in a mental asylum, the Beast is freed by Sing at the request of Brother Sum who wants to use him to kill the Landlady and Landlord. At first, the Beast easily overpowers them but ends up turning his attention to Sing as he attempts to hit the Beast on his head with a heavy wooden rod. The Beast ferociously punches Sing on his head as Sing doesn't give into submission. Sing's qi is activated at some point, transforming him into a fearsome kung-fu master. The Beast is eventually defeated by Sing through surrendering.
Personality[]
A life-long martial artist, The Beast is fond of fights and seeks to find a fighter who will surpass him. Having found no one, he lost interest in life and locked himself in an asylum. However, he has no hesitation to cheat when he has the opportunity to do so, like in his fight with the Landlord and the Landlady when he tricked them into submitting in defeat but immediately attempted to murder them when they lowered their vigilance. He usually adopts an eccentric and polite facade to make himself look harmless. Despite his tendency to cheat, the Beast does have a more honorable side as he accepts being surpassed by Sing when the latter beat him, even becoming his apprentice (which also makes him significantly more sympathetic than Brother Sum).
Early Life[]
Much of the Beast's early life is unknown, however, it is likely he gained mass recognition through his high Kung Fu performance and killing people. His status is seemingly only known to that of other martial artists who have heard of the stories told about the Beast.
