| ~ The Black Cat to the player. |
The Black Cat, also known as the Demon, is the overarching antagonist in The Witch's House. He is Ellen's only friend. However, he is not a true friend at all, as it is revealed that he is a sadistic and heartless demon who manipulates Ellen into becoming a sadistic witch for his own amusement and goals, bringing the main events in the story.
Biography[]
After Ellen killed her parents and burned their house down, the Black Cat ate their soul and tied a contract with Ellen to cure her incurable disease in exchange for offering him countless of souls. He then offered her a house with magic, which she will use to her advantage to kill off countless friends, offering their souls to the Black Cat. Though it wasn't enough to fulfill their initial contract, she found a way to switch bodies. Changing their plans, Ellen "befriends" Viola and slowly builds up a strong bond in order to obtain her body. The Black Cat will follow you throughout the game, allowing you to save your progress in case anything were to happen. Near the end, however, in two endings you can see his dead body lying before Ellen's room. When you step on it, it makes a squishy noise like blood.
Secret Ending[]
The Black Cat mostly explains this in the secret ending. It's because he knows the witch will die soon, and when the witch dies, so does the house and everything in it. He had left the black cat's body, before he would perish with the house. He also explains how demons do not have forms, but that does not mean they're truly immortal as they can die for either lack of feeding or other means. At the very end, he reappears in his cat form only to vanish with the witch's body once again.
Personality[]
The Black Cat is nothing else but a heartless manipulator with no redeeming qualities. He manipulates Ellen to destroy her innocence and turn her into a witch. He has genuine no care for Ellen and just uses her to be manipulated. He makes her murder a ton of her own friends and give them to him. Despite Ellen doing horrendous things in the game, the Black Cat is one of the main reasons why alongside with her parents. However, he seems to possess a jovial and playful personality, not hesitating to crack jokes from time to time in the game while following the player; however, it doesn't make him any less of a threat to the player.
