The Bog Lady is the main antagonist of the Season 1 finale of the Netflix show I Heart Arlo, the spin-off show of the 2021 Netflix animated musical comedy film Arlo the Alligator Boy. She is a monster made out of moss with antler horns, is the ruler of the Heart of the Swamp and claims to have been a protector of Arlo ever since he was younger.
She was voiced by singer Santigold.

Background[]
According to what she said in "The Uncondemning", she was a protective mother figure of Arlo ever since he was a baby, even though Arlo never met her and was instead being raised by Edmée. When Arlo left the swamp in the start of the pilot movie, she was utterly upset about him leaving and spent several months planning out a scheme of how to bring him back to her. First, she unleashes a curse that turns the swamp into a gloomy-looking place. Then she soon meets Arlo's reformed enemies Ruff and Stucky and coerces them to help her bring Arlo back to the swamp by fabricating a ransom letter saying they kidnapped Edmée and sending it to Arlo in New York City.
I Heart Arlo[]
After Arlo (along with the new friends he made in the movie Bertie, Tony, Alia, Furlicia and Marcellus) come to the swamp and find Ruff and Scruffy, the two former bad guys reveal the Bog Lady's intentions and that she is holding Edmée captive. So Arlo travels to the swamp alone (being unknowingly followed by Bertie and Alia) and he soon finds the Heart of the swamp and meets the Bog Lady and seems to be surprised that she knows him. Giving him a ball of mud that soon blooms into a flower, she reveals that she protected him when he was a baby and tries to make him agree to never leave the swamp again. Arlo however, demands that she tell him where Edmée is and the Bog Lady reveals that she has trapped Edmée in a cage made of branches that is hanging from a tree. When Arlo tries to save her, the Bog Lady intervenes and sings about how upset she is about Arlo vacating the swamp and wants him to express remorse for doing so. When Arlo does not oblige, the Bog Lady soon captures him in her vines and uses hypnosis to get him to stay.
Soon, Bertie and Alia call out to Arlo, which breaks the Bog Lady's hypnosis and a battle between Arlo and his friends and the Bog Lady breaks out that soon results in Edmée being free and the rest of the gang find Arlo via a speedboat and tracking devices (planted by Marcellus) but the Bog Lady has grown to Kiju-size by using the swamp resources and manages to stop them from escaping and as she holds the boat close to her face. Before she can do anything, Arlo gives a heartfelt apology for leaving the swamp but also says that while he may not live there anymore, the swamp will always be a prt of him and implore her to let them leave. The Bog Lady, however, does not oblige and decides to devour them. Luckily for the good guys, Edmée anticipated this as she has rigged explosives underneath her shack (that the Bog Lady was towering over at the moment) and she makes them to go off, forcing the Bog Lady to let them go and the explosion not only causes them to be blown out of the swamp, but it results in the Bog Loady having a fiery death, ending her rain over the swamp once and for all.
Personality[]
The Bog Lady is a creature of pure malevolence, willing to endanger innocent lives for the sake of her goals. She at first tries to ease her victims in with a soothing tone of voice to lure them in a false sense of security, but when that ends up failing, she does not hold back and completely goes bananas. Also, when her rage has hit its peak, she is utterly unforgiving as when Arlo finally does express remorse for leaving the swamp, the Bog Lady does no grant him mercy.
It is worth noting that the Bog Lady showed some care to Arlo, seeing him as a son, but this has caused her to develop a high level of clinginess, indifference and entitlement, wanting Arlo to stay in the swamp forever with her, not caring about his life back at Seaside.
In essence, she is the most evil character in the Arlo franchise.
Appearance[]
The Bog Lady is made out of green moss, as a face made out of mud and deer-like antlers with mushrooms sticking out of the points. Her eyes seem to be made of fireflies and her finger tips are made of mud like her face.
Trivia[]
- The Bog Lady seems to be able to bring life and death into the swamp as at the start of the movie, the swamp is lively and pleasant-looking while in the Season 1 finale, it is dark, gloomy and the plants seem to be dying.
