~ The Cat in the episode "The Cat's Car" (translated in French as "I will never be!". |
Samantha, better known as The Cat to nearly everyone but her former ward Simon Laurent, is one of the main characters of the Cartoon Network series Infinity Train.
She is a traveling con artist and self-proclaimed entrepreneur who claims to know the Conductor. She is able to travel across the train cars in her personal shuttlecraft, attempting to sell seemingly useless items to the unsuspecting inhabitants in each car. She has even owns and operates several cars on the train including the Lucky Cat Car, Le Chat Chalet Car, and her own namesake car.
Although her true name is Samantha, she appears to conduct business dealings on the train only using her title of "The Cat", and the only characters shown to know her actual name were Grace and Simon.
Appearance[]
The Cat is a short-haired, white cat with yellow eyes. In Book One, she wore a green, buttoned vest with a blue ascot. In Book Two, while running the Lucky Cat Car, she wore a blue vest with a red ribbon and a skimmer hat. In Book Three, during her vacation, the Cat wears a light purple robe with a dark purple, fuzzy lining (which suspiciously matches with Frank's). In Book Four, while working in a saloon in the Old West Car, she wore a blue dress, a rose decor choker on her neck and hair with a feathered hair piece.
Personality[]
The Cat is a shrewd business-cat, always looking for opportunities to collect unique things and make sales, even of entirely useless items. Outside of her business schemes, her intentions are difficult to read. Initially, she planned to deliver One-One to the Conductor and schemed with the Conductor to trap Tulip in her memory tape.
Whilst the cat claims to as, she always does the right thing, this is demonstrably wrong as the cat is shown to be continuously amoral even after book 1 and displays a lot of moral cowardice. For example, the Cat left her ward, the 10 year old Simon, to a Ghom monster and never returned to the boy after he survived because she was afraid to own up to her mistake.
This also shows for reasons unknown, the cat is entirely unwilling to apologize for her mistakes. Despite unwilling to either return or apologize to Simon for the trauma she caused him, the cat kept a bit of a soft spot for Simon.
She gave her former ward a forbidden memory device to invade Grace's mind and gave detailed instructions on how to use it as well as trap people when Simon asked for help understanding why Grace was acting distant with him.
Trivia[]
