The Chechen is a supporting antagonist in the 2008 superhero film The Dark Knight, the second installment of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy.
He is a Russian mob boss and drug lord whose co-gangland reign in Gotham City comes to an abrupt end after he and his associates ally themselves with The Joker.
He is portrayed by Ritchie Coster, who also played Dietrich Banning in The Tuxedo, Mark Bruner in Law & Order, Carlo Parisi in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Pope in The Walking Dead and Caolan Waltrip in Tulsa King
History[]
The Chechen is the leader of the Russia-based mafia and is a close associate of Sal Maroni. He is a known buyer of Scarecrow's fear toxin - although he later tries to sell it back after it drives his customers insane.
Later on, the Chechen and Maroni join fellow mob boss Gambol in a private meeting with corrupt accountant Lau moments before they are all abruptly interrupted by The Joker. As opposed to his conspirators' reaction to his presence, the Chechen is interested with the Joker's proposition to forge an alliance to kill Batman and Harvey Dent.
He later succeeds in locating the location of the Mob's money with help from the Joker. Later on, however, the Joker sets the money on fire and takes control of Chechen's outfit. The Joker then tells the Chechen that he is going to order his men to chop him up and feed him to his dogs, as they drag him away to his fate. The Joker would later use the Chechen's dogs to attack Batman.
