“ | Mr. Slugworth: We three are the fiercest of rivals, and yet we agree on one thing. A good chocolate must be simple, plain, uncomplicated. Mr. Fickelgruber: Where as this with all it’s bells and whistles. Well, it’s just… Mr. Prodnose: Weird. |

~ The Chocolate Cartel to Willy Wonka about his chocolate, unaware of it being made with magic. |
The Chocolate Cartel are the main antagonists of the 2023 musical fantasy comedy film Wonka, which serves as a prequel to Roald Dahl's 1964 children’s novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and a "companion piece" to the 1971 musical fantasy film Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.
The Chocolate Cartel consists of Arthur Slugworth, Felix Fickelgruber and Gerald Prodnose respectively.
They are in cahoots with the Chief-of-Police, Father Julius, Bleacher, Mrs. Scrubitt and Miss Bon-Bon. Together, they plot to thwart Wonka and attempt to run him out of business by any means necessary.
History[]
For years, Mr. Slugworth, Mr. Fickelgruber and Mr. Prodnose were the most famous chocolate makers in the Galleries Gourmet. This was because they kept all their chocolate in a secret reserve under the cathedral, run by the corrupt Father Julius, and his “chocoholic” monks. There they kept a book of all their records, and numbers of bribing officials and others, and another book.
Trivia[]
- According to Wonka director/writer Paul King, The Chocolate Cartel was inspired by Boggis, Bunce and Bean, the main antagonists of Roald Dahl's novel Fantastic Mr. Fox.
- That said, some viewers can find parallels between the four main members of The Chocolate Cartel and the Four Bratty Kids from the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory story: Arthur Slugworth is similar to Violet Beauregarde due to his over competitiveness, Gerald Prodnose is similar to Mike Teevee due to overall being a fool despite his claims of grandeur, Felix Fickelgruber is similar to Veruca Salt due to being a classist, greedy opportunist and the Chief-of-Police is similar to Augustus Gloop due to their love for sweets and how they end up being fat.
- So far, Miss Bon-Bon is the sole member of The Chocolate Cartel to not be a villain, as she just takes care of Arthur Slugworth's appointments as her secretary with no indications if she is aware of his corruption or not.
