Boris and Vlad, better known as The Cleaners, are the secondary antagonists on the 2019 Netflix animated series Carmen Sandiego.
The Cleaners work for the faculty of V.I.L.E., Coach Brunt, Professor Maelstrom, Countess Cleo and Dr. Bellum. They act as janitorial staff, but also waiters and accomplices. They help out thieves by getting rid of disturbances, scrubbing evidence, and airlifting the thieves' findings.
They were voiced by Liam O'Brien.
Appearance[]
Boris and Vlad are dressed in green janitorial jumpsuits with black boots and gloves, white shirt, and a green cap. Vlad has a sharp chin and black hair that's balding. Boris is taller, with black hair, an overbite, and a rectangular head with a rounded chin. They can change their attire depending on their mission. When they are in public, they are wearing a black coat with a green shirt and toboggan. In the episode "The Duke of Vermeer Caper," they put on a waiter's or butler's suit, as in the episode, they are delivering food to the V.I.L.E. operatives. In the two episodes "The Day of the Dead Caper," and "The Haunted Bayou Caper," Vlad dresses like a vampire, while Boris wears a Frankenstein's monster costume.
Personalities[]
The Cleaners seem to be very indifferent on what task they get assigned to do. They do not flinch at the sight of someone being injured or kidnapped. No matter what task they are told to complete, they do it without hesitation. Shadowsan has said, "The Cleaners do not know fear," and they, "never leave before a job is done." The Cleaners do show that they have things they would rather do than fight or help. When Dash Haber was fighting Carmen Sandiego for the first time, the Cleaners saw what was happening and ignored it to continue moving the box they were carrying. It is also safe to assume they are very persistent.
Biography[]
The Cleaners' background information is very vague. They were born in Russia and probably got janitorial jobs while living a life of crime on the side before they were found and taken in by V.I.L.E.
Skills and Abilities[]
The Cleaners are infamous for being able to complete noisy jobs quietly. When they poisoned Chase Devineaux, they made sure that it made no noise to avoid alerting the others in the building. They also made off with getting Dash Haber in the helicopter rather quietly without attracting unwanted attention. They don't seem to be strong however, as it took both of them to hold down the teenage version of Carmen. They are skilled helicopter pilots as well, being able to drive for hours with no breaks. They are the getaway drivers of V.I.L.E.

Trivia[]
- Boris and Vlad have never smiled through the course of the show.
- The Cleaners were based off of Rick and Nick ICK, AKA the old cleaners. The brothers could not keep any janitorial job they signed up for, so they were hired to clean up V.I.L.E.'s crimes in the old TV show. Rick and Nick however were very incompetent and left even more mess for V.I.L.E. in the long run. The Cleaners were a huge step-up from the original janitorial staff of V.I.L.E.
