The Cleaners are the secondary antagonists of the Apple TV+ British drama-thriller miniseries Hijack.

They are assassins working for the Cheapside Firm who are sent to kill those who interfere with their plans, and their families. They killed Neela's family, alongside Abdullah, a member of the Dubai ATC. Their most recent target has been the family of Sam Nelson.

They are portrayed by Graeme McKnight, Chris Corrigan, and Samson Cox-Vinell.

Personality[]

Little is known about these cleaners, as their names don't come up in the show. However, it is shown they have no hesitation about killing anyone, even children. They are very professional about their jobs, using silencer pistols to lessen the noise, and keeping the bodies in one spot, usually the bathroom. In some instances, they seem to enjoy their jobs, especially the cleaners in Dubai. When one of the cleaners kills Abdullah, you can see his grin when finding and shooting him.

Biography[]

Their first appearance is in Episode 2, when Abdullah heads to Neela’s home as she refuses to answer his calls. Inside her home, Abdullah is met by two dodgy cleaners. They tell him that Neela is upstairs. heads upstairs and finds Neela murdered in her own shower. Her corpse is squished next to another body, presumably her husband’s. Abdullah turns round to find one of the cleaners pointing a gun at him too. He is shot and killed in Neela’s bathroom.

Then, in Episode 4, Marsha receives an odd phone call about a delivery for Sam. Two thugs, Joe and Maz, have located Sam’s home and are snooping around the building. These criminals appear to be linked with the terrorists on the plane. In Episode 5 and 6, the same cleaners, Joe and Maz, breaking into Sam’s home in London. These cleaners are armed; they head upstairs, where Sam’s son Kai is hiding. Fortunately, Joe does not find Kai. Downstairs, they attempt to break into Sam's laptop. After looking for Kai some more, they sit on Sam's couch and see the news of the hijack of Flight KA29, which Kai also hears while calling the police.

In Episode 7, after the police arrive, Kai makes the mistake of coming out of hiding to watch them talk with Joe, which results in Maz seeing him and taking him hostage. Maz shows him to Joe, who taunts Kai about his dad's predicament, saying "Daddy's on the telly!" They sit around and watch the news until a call comes from Kai's phone, being "Detective Daniel." Joe sees this, and seeing the caller is a detective, holds a gun to Kai's head, having him say that everything is fine so Daniel won't investigate. Fortunately, Kai tells Daniel that there is trouble through secret messaging, which allows Daniel to save Kai and arrest Joe & Maz with backup.

Trivia[]

  • The only way you can find the cleaners' names are in casting lists. Two of them don't even come up.
  • While Kai's assassins were arrested, it is unknown what happened to Neela & Abdullah's assassins.
