~ The Con Man corrupting a young Jimmy McGill. |
The Con Man is a minor antagonist in the crime drama series Better Call Saul. He swindles money from Charles McGill Sr., the father of Jimmy McGill and Chuck McGill.
He was portrayed by Stephen Snedden.
History[]
In a flashback to 1973, the con man enters Charles McGill's store in Cicero, Illinois. He tells Charles he has a son with epilepsy and his car broke down, and when Charles offers spark plugs he asks for $5 instead. Charles' son Jimmy realizes it is a scam and warns his father, but Charles refuses to believe the man could be lying. The grifter pretends to leave and apologizes for wasting his time, but Charles lets him stay and gives $10 to him. Charles then goes to the storage room to find spark plugs for the swindler, leaving Jimmy in charge of the cash register. While Charles is gone, the con man buys two cartons of cigarettes with the money he cheated out of him. Jimmy asks him to pay with his money first. Impressed by Jimmy spotting him as a con man, the grifter offers his own advice to the boy, using the idea of there being "wolves and sheep" in the world to justify his actions and telling Jimmy he must choose between the two to survive. The con man then leaves the store and drives away, just as Charles comes back with the spark plugs.
Trivia[]
- His actions played a part in Jimmy becoming Saul Goodman and subsequently helping Walter White with his meth empire, which instigated a huge deal of chaos that plagued Albuquerque.
