“ | ...And so it came to pass that the Countess, who once bathed in the rejuvenating blood of a hundred virgins, was buried alive... And her castle in which so many cruel deeds took place fell rapidly into ruin. Rising over the buried dungeons in that god-forsaken wilderness, a solitary tower, like some monument to Evil, is all that remains. The Countess' fortune was believed to be divided among the clergy, although some say that more remains unfound, still buried alongside the rotting skulls that bear mute witness to the inhumanity of the human creature. | „ |

“ | Beauty fades. It is impossible to escape. I will not submit to this truth. I am beyond the pitiful laws of tiny men. Their blood will serve me. Fulfill my purpose. My splendor. Reborn from their pain. And my beauty will never fade again. | „ |
~ The Countess's most famous quote. |
The Countess is a villain in the Diablo video game series, appearing in Diablo II and Diablo Immortal. She was once a malignant ruler and bathed in the blood of virgins. The Countess is based on the real-life Hungarian serial killer Elizabeth Báthory.
Biography[]
Diablo II[]
The Countess once ruled from a castle in Khanduras and bathed in the "rejuvenating blood of a hundred virgins", presumably killed by her. She was buried alive in her tower's cellars for her many cruel acts. Her fortune was divided among the clergy of Zakarum, but some of it remained in the tower, which came to be known as the "Forgotten Tower".
In Diablo II, the heroes entered the Forgotten Tower and killed the Countess.
Diablo Immortal[]
Six years later, the Countess was resurrected by a cult known as the Bloodsworn, comprising of traitor Rogues from the Sisterhood of the Sightless Eye. A shard of the Worldstone also came into her possession and she wore it around her neck. The Bloodsworn razed a village, collecting blood from their victims to restore the Countess to her former glory, though the Countess told them it was not enough to restore her fully. Soon, she encountered a group of heroes again. With the help of Lakrii, a leader of the Bloodsworn, the Countess was fully revived. But ultimately, the heroes stormed the Forgotten Tower and slew the Countess for good.
Trivia[]
