Julius Robert Oppenheimer, shortened as J. Robert Oppenheimer and more commonly known as the Croatoan is the main antagonist of The Trinity Desk Project and a major antagonist in THE MONUMENT MYTHOS: Modern Day, the third installment in THE MONUMENT MYTHOS franchise. He is an invisible copy of J. Robert Oppenheimer created by him to be a being immune to the laws of physics. He is responsible for most of the suffering in the series and is one of the guardians of America's "True Self." He makes constant appearances, and there is a chance he has crossed over into different universes in The Monument Mythos. The Croatoan is one of the most mysterious people in the entire mythos.

Biography[]

Backstory[]

As shown in the original Trinity Desk series, and heavily implied in the remade version, The Croatoan was created by Oppenheimer in 1945 out of atomic bomb energy. He was intended to be an all powerful being, who was essentially invisible to the laws of nature itself. After his creation, The Croatoan turned out to be an identical copy of Oppenheimer himself. After being born, The Croatoan then proceeded to thank his "father."

The Trinity Desk Project[]

The Croatoan first made himself known when two dead children were found inside the trinity desk, the first invisible object. Although the culprit was never confirmed, the words "Croatoan" could be seen in both of the dead children's wrists, implying that The Croatoan was the murderer. Seemingly hundreds of suspects were identified, but it's unknown if anyone was ever charged. The Croatoan may have made an appearance 355 year earlier when The Roanoke Colony went missing in 1590. It's revealed that all the settlers had been turned invisible by a "natural nuclear reactor." The origin of the reactor is unknown, but the words "Croatoan" could again be seen carved into a tree, again implying The Croatoan's involvement. Afterwards, a video from 1945 is shown, claiming to be "the first sighting of The Croatoan." The Croatoan is last seen in photos with Oppenheimer, including one where he is right to him, with Oppenheimer frowning and The Croatoan smiling.

A Monument Mythos[]

The Croatoan appears twice in the epilogue to The Monument Mythos, once behind Oppenheimer and once behind President Montgomery Clift. The connection between The Croatoan and Clift is unknown, but it's possible there might be a correlation between him and CLIFTCHAOS.

Trivia[]

  • The Croatoan is one of the most mysterious The Monument Mythos characters, with his motivations being left unclear in the series and only fully explained in Q&A's for the series.
