~ Sebastian Solace giving the player a tip on survival if they were killed by The Crooked. |
The Corpse of Guardsman ██████, commonly referred to as The Crooked or Adversary, is the main antagonist of Pressure: The Hunted expedition. He follows the player throughout the entire expedition, thinking that they are playing a game.
Appearance[]
He appears as a large humanoid figure wearing digital camouflage attire, an Urbanshade uniform, and a beret. He has pale, off-white skin, and his body structure resembles a skeleton rather than a living person. He has a lopsided, toothy smile, a disfigures nose, and his eyes don't match each other. His right eye is much bigger than his left, has a sewing needle protruding from it, and has visible cataracts. His left eye is smaller, and the socket droops down to his teeth. This eye is able to see, as it follows the player when they move.
His clothes are terribly withered and torn, but his knee pads and boots seem to be in perfect condition. He only has four fingers, and these fingers are unusually long, going from his waist to his calves when stretched out. He also seems to be wearing silver dog tags around His neck. His most important feature is a black, scorpion-like parasite attached to the back of his head.
Biography[]
The Crooked is the disfigured and corrupted body of an Urbanshade guardsman. A parasite known as a Reverie latched onto them, with the in-game encounters with it being its third stage, "Ennui" (a synonym of boredom), which means the Crooked is acting like it does simply because it is bored and to have fun.
The Crooked first appears in room 37 and ducks down below the doorway to get a look at the player, it then enters the room that the player is in, looks around and begins his mechanics (see Mechanics).
When the player gets hit, he punches the player down to the ground. It then reaches out its hand as the player grabs it. The Crooked helps the player up and then brushes off their right shoulder before beginning to give chase once more.
When the player gets to one of the last rooms, they have to move a bridge to get to the other side of a chasm, when they begin to close the bridge, The Crooked moves behind them. While standing on the bridge (which is now moving away from the player), The Crooked salutes the player, then walks back to the previous room. The bridge also returns back to the first position, leaving a giant hole in between the player and The Crooked.
By following specific steps, players can find and unlock a secret expedition known as the Mantle Extraction, a WAY harder version of the Hunted expedition. In this mission, players are tasked with finding 50 token fragments to entertain the hosts of a show while avoiding entities and hazards, such as the Crooked, to enter the Vault. Upon opening the door to the first room of the Mantle Extraction, the Crooked will appear at the other side of the room, repeating the same cutscene and having the same mechanics. Upon collecting the last token, the Crooked will salute the player just like in the Hunted, while the Hosts say "that the parasite can leave, now."
According to its document, the Crooked must be hunted down as soon as possible. If it reaches stage 4, Cocoon, a 90 KW laser drill will be brought to the cocoon immediately to cut through the scalp, and will be shot in the brain afterwards. If it reaches stage 5, Fracture, the nuclear detonation of the Blacksite must be enacted, as, according to its document, "the manpower and financial costs of terminating it by traditional means at this point would be greater than if done via atomic detonation." (Which means the Crooked has some kind of world-ending abilities)
Mechanics[]
The Crooked only moves when you are not looking at it, not because he can't, but simply because he sees it as fair play. When Pipsqueak is attacking, The Crooked quickly runs into a locker to hide, showing the player that they should do the same. Sometimes when you look away from him, instead of speeding at you, he can crawl into the vents to pop out of a nearby one to ambush you. When you are inputting a code into a door, instead of attacking you, he patiently waits for you nearby.
Trivia[]
- The Crooked's alias was mentioned in both a quote from Sebastian Solace, and the name of his main theme.
- His mechanic is a common trope in horror games.
- At the very end of the expedition, he sticks out his arm of door 1, holding the Mega Hunt Token.
- The Crooked is confirmed to become a new single-player only grand encounter soon.
- Nicknames for "The Crooked" include; "Bob", "Robert", "Bobby", "Bobert", and "Bipolar Bob". Due to the confusion about if he cares about you, or not.
- The Crooked initially moved much faster and dealt 30 damage when he attacks. However, this was changed to where he moves slightly slower, along with only dealing 20 damage. This was in part to Roblox’s request to make The Hunted and The Vault more easier following complaints by some players about the quest being too hard.
