The Cursed Idol is the overarching antagonist of the web series Happy Tree Friends.
It is an ancient statuette that brings death and destruction anywhere it goes, and is heavily implied to be the source of all the gruesome deaths in the Happy Tree Friends world.
Biography[]
The Cursed Idol is a dark gold statuette. Little about The Cursed Idol's past and creator is known, what we all know is an ancient evil creation that brings death to everyone near it.
In the episode Idol Curiosity the show revealed that it is Sniffles who brought the Cursed Idol to the town. When Sniffles and his partners Flaky and Giggles tried to touch it, it caused the sky to rain dead monkeys, summoned earth cracks to crush Giggles and controlled cannibal flowers to eat Flaky alive. Sniffles managed to escape, but the crack it summoned chased Sniffles all the way, killing everyone alongside him, and caused the crack to burst lava. After chasing Sniffles all along to the museum, it successfully killed Sniffles by tearing him into two halves, and caused lava to destroy the whole museum.
The Cursed Idol later starred in Hello Dolly and Treasure These Idol Moments, bringing bad luck and killing everyone around it. It also frequently appears in various episodes as a cameo character, therefore it's heavily implied that the Idol caused all the deaths in these episodes, and possibly, all the unnatural deaths in the HTF world (except for the murders done by the likes of Fliqpy).
In Class Act and Breaking Wind, it is possible that the Cursed Idol blew up and caused the school explosion and in the latter possibly died from Petunia setting the world on fire, however, the latter is unlikely.
Personality[]
For most of the time it appears, The Cursed Idol remains silent and doesn't show much personality.
However in the episode Idol Curiosity it is shown to have control over its curse: The crack the Idol generates is able to chase Sniffles and follow him anywhere he goes. It can even hear the sound of pebbles Sniffles thrown, get drown in the sea and even pay the money for the taxi (however it is possible that it's played for comedic effect). The Idol can also choose which person to kill first and which to kill later (In Hello Dolly it is Petunia who first picked up the Idol but she is the last one to be killed in the night).
As is mentioned above, it is safe to assume The Cursed Idol is killing Tree Friends on its own will, but whether it has moral agency or just following its instinct is still unknown.

- The appearance of The Cursed Idol is based on fertility Idol from Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.
- The Cursed Idol is based on a human rather than an animal, which leads to some fans saying that humans once existed in the HTF universe, but were wiped out (by either natural or paranormal causes, or a nuclear war).
