The Delawares, or the Delaware Mercenaries, were a group of minor antagonists in Cormac McCarthy's 1985 historical and anti-Western epic novel Blood Meridian. Soon after their introduction, they joined Glanton's Gang and assisted Glanton in his various missions and tasks.
Biography[]
Not much is known about the Delawares prior to them joining Glanton's Gang, but they are seen often tracking nearby camps with Webster for Glanton and his men to attack.
Throughout the story, the Delawares slowly die out, killed in action or fleeing for their lives from Glanton's Gang.
The final two Delawares are killed alongside two other members of Glanton's Gang, Gilchrist and Bathcat, as they are all hung from a tree, their bodies mutilated.
