Villain Overview

Well, if it isn't the Kids Next Door. Have you arrived to abscond with my birthday cake like you do every year?
~ The Delightful Children from Down the Lane.
Well, well, well. Now that we've established whom can kick whom in the posterior, let's turn the Kids Next Door, into the KIDS NO MORE!
~ The Delightful Children from Down the Lane.

The Delightful Children From Down The Lane are the secondary antagonists of the Cartoon Network series Codename: Kids Next Door.

They are a group of brainwashed, sophisticated children who plan on taking down the Kids Next Door organization using their advanced technology and an endless supply of wealth. They work for the series' main antagonist, Father, who also forcibly turned them into his adoptive children.

They were voiced by Benjamin Diskin, Dee Bradley Baker and Cree Summer respectively.

Appearance[]

All five of the Delightful Children have differing appearances, but they all have similar attire and they all have light-blue eyes. The boys–Bruce, David, and Lenny–wear blue button-up coats with a grey shield-like design on each of them, white undershirts, red ties, blue shorts, blue tube socks, and brown shoes. The girls of the group–Constance and Alessandra–wear short-sleeve white dresses with light-blade stripes that go across their waist as well as their sleeves, a light-blue scarf around their neck, pink tube socks, pick undergarments, and white buckle-on shoes.

  • Bruce - Bruce has blond hair and Caucasian skin. He is the second shortest of the five.
  • David - David has darkish-blond hair that covers his eyes and Caucasian skin. He is the tallest and most slender of the five.
  • Alessandra - Alessandra has long blond hair and Caucasian skin. She is the third tallest of the five. She wears a pink bow that sits at the top of her hair.
  • Constance - Constance has light-brown skin and brown hair. She is the shortest of the five. She wears glasses and her hair is braided with red hair-ties holding them in place. Her braids stand straight up.
  • Lenny - Lenny has light-brown skin with brown hair. He is the second-tallest of the five. Unlike the rest of the guys, Lenny wears a red football helmet with a white stripe that goes across the middle. When he takes it off, he is wearing braces.

Personality[]

After having been "Delightfulized", Father said that they had been made into "five perfect delightful children". While still maintained most of their individual personalities since they had been Delightfulized, they also became perfectly synchronized. This is seen in their particular their coordination and their knowledge of their advanced technology, they seem to have all recollection of their lives as Kids Next Door operatives. The Delightfulization resulted in the five of them becoming perfectly synchronized both physically and mentally, as they all behave in the ideal perfect manor. This also resulted in their love for adult-tyranny and their obedience towards adult authority. Their good qualities do not appear when they interact with their fellow children, as they do not respect anyone except those whom are older than them. An example of this is their refusal to share their cake with any of the children that they "invite" to their birthday parties, tying them down so they can watch the Delightful Children eat their cake. They also have no problem with stealing and even attempting to murder other children as seen on several occasions.

Most of the Delightful Children's time is spend using their advanced technology to try and take down the Kids Next Door. Having been assigned this task by their father, they are very dedicated in trying to bring down their entire operation by any means necessary. Although they are defeated time-and-time again, they refuse to give up the fight until the Kids Next Door have been defeated once and for all. On occasions where they either had to call upon the Kids Next Door for help or work with the Kids Next Door to defeat a common enemy, they would immediately follow up by betraying them, demonstrating how their hatred for the Kids Next Door is greater than anything else. For example, in the movie, OPERATION: Z.E.R.O., they chose to destroy Numbuh 1 rather than helping him save the world from Grandfather who plans to turn everyone, regardless of their current age, into his Senior Citi-zombies.

Having a lot of respect for adults, the children have a keen desire to be adults themselves, as seen when they remarked how getting older is moving closer to the glorious years of adulthood. However; they do disrespect some adults, especially those that work for them (including their butler and the Ice Cream Men). Their desire for adulthood extends further to their want for others to grow up as well, as seen in the episode "F.O.U.N.T.A.I.N.", when they tried to destroy the Fountain of Youth so that no child could be young forever.

When speaking, they Delightful Children display a few different mannerisms that resulted form their Delightfulization, among the most obvious of these being their tendency to speak at the exact same time. The Delightful Children tend use "I" or "we" when referring to themselves. When meeting with the Kids Next Door, they often being their dialogue with "well, well, well..." and then proceed to mock them in a clever and/or sarcastic fashion.

Biography[]

Past[]

It is revealed in "Operation: Z.E.R.O", that the Delightful Children are none other than the operatives of the legendary "lost sector" of the KND, Sector Z. They were a group of Kids Next Door members who worked with Numbuh Zero to take down Grandfather. Some unknown time later, Father captured them and put them into a Delightfulization chamber. It blew a fuse, increasing it's power by "elevendy-billion"-fold, causing the machine to be destroyed. However; it ended up making Sector Z into five "Perfect Delightful Children", permanently inflicted with the machine's Delightfulization effects.

Cartoon Series[]

Season 1[]

DelightfulChildren49

The Delightful Children served as the series' central antagonists in the first season of the show, working for the enigmatic Father who's identity was revealed at the end of the season. The Delightful Children's main goal at this time was to bring down Sector V, who was believed to be the head of the Kids Next Door threat. At the end of the series, after facing several defeats, the Delightful Children would finally receive their first victory after defeating the entirety of Sector V, finalizing their victory after turning Numbuh 1 into an adult. This victory would turn out to be short-lived as Sector V would eventually return to their mansion home and defeat Father.

C.A.K.E.D. saga[]

The C.A.K.E.D. saga would be introduced in the first episode in the series, and would continue to be a running plot-point throughout the rest of the series. This saga involved the Delightful Children celebrating their birthday by eating a cake that they wouldn't share with anyone. Sector V was tasked with retrieving the cake, but each attempt was met with failure. By the end of each of these episodes, Sector V would either be outsmarted or they would ruin the cake for both parties.

Other appearances[]

As the series continued, the Delightful Children would remain as one of the Kids Next Door's most reoccurring antagonists. After Father's identity was revealed, the Delightful Children would begin to play the role of his servant, often assisting him in achieving his overall goal of domination over the KND. Other than assisting Father, the Delightful Children also worked to become as close to adulthood as they could, which sometimes involved working with other adults and Teenagers. The Delightful Children have also attempted to delightfulize other children on several occasions.

Comics[]

Like in the television series, the Delightful Children serve as the central antagonists of many of the Kids Next Door comic releases. These include Top Secret Files, Operation: A.I.R.P.L.A.N.E., Operation: F.A.N.G.S., Operation: G.A.M.E.O.V.U.H., Operation: E.G.G.N.O.G., Operation: R.O.B.O.T.S., and Operation: CAKED.

KND VS DCFDTL[]

The KND VS DCFDTL series were a series of short comics, each done by different artist, that were featured in Cartoon Cartoons, Cartoon Network's Block Party, and Cartoon Network Action Pack. The comics typically feature the Delightful Children falling for some prank the Kids Next Door set for them, screaming after falling for it. The names of the comics featured in the same issue will be named in a similarly-patterned fashion, for example R.O.C.K., P.A.P.E.R., S.C.I.S.S.O.R.S. or S.P.R.I.N.G., S.U.M.M.E.R., F.A.L.L., W.I.N.T.E.R.

Video Games[]

DelightfulMansionShip

The Delightful Children have appeared in a majority of Kids Next Door video games, often serving as bosses. In Operation: VIDEOGAME, The Delightful Children assisted Father by battling Sector V in space using their Space Mansion. After pretending to be defeated, they created the final boss known as the Amalgamation. Other video games that they have appeared in include Operation B.E.S.T., Protect and Swerve, P.L.U.G.G.U.H.S., Codename Kids Next Door: Intruders in the Park, Operation G.R.A.D.U.A.T.E.S. (Video Game), and Operation: R.A.I.L..

Other[]

Villainous Villain Orientation The missing cases of the KND Treehouse[]

The Delightful Children were the subject of a Villainous cartoon. In it, the Delightful Children had their birthday cake stolen by the Kids Next Door again, but this time Dr. Flug Slys was there to help them get it back. He ended up getting the cake back with his robot, but the robot ended up beating the Delightful Children after returning with the cake.

Abilities & Weaknesses[]

Abilities[]

  • High Intelligence: As noted by Numbuh 0, the Delightful Children possess in depth knowledge of the Kids Next Door strategics and technological limitations. This knowledge can only come from the best and brightest KND operatives, which is why he suspected the Delightful Children were "delightfulized" KND operatives.
  • Unnatural Longevity: It is noted that as a side effect of their unique "delightfulization", they Delightful Children seem to still be stuck in their youth. This is despite them being chronologically as old as Numbuh 0 and Father; or wanting desperately to become adults one day. However, they are not immune to aging as they changed ages when hit with the Age Cigar.
  • Social Synchronization: Despite having their own individual minds and some form of individual personality, they Delightful children do everything in perfect synchronization. Often, they do not participate in physical combat, instead using giant robots which can be operated by one individual child at a time. They do have the ability to willingly break this mentality, as seen in the episode "Operation: U.N.D.E.R.C.O.V.E.R.".
  • Expert Combatants: Despite their usage of robots and having other villains doing their dirty work, the Delightful Children seems to possess physical prowess seen in Operation: N.A.U.G.H.T.Y. where they taken down the elves and subdued Santa Claus while disguised as Sector V (framing them in doing so) with only tranquilizing weapons. This makes sense since they used to be Sector Z of KND before becoming what they are now.
  • Advanced Technology: Instead of using physical combat, the children will often utilise their access to advanced technologies to create genetically engineered monsters to laser weaponry to or giant killer-robots to fight the Kids Next Door. These technological wonders are financed and supplied to them by Father.

Weaknesses[]

  • Vulnerable to Adults: Because they are "delightfulized" children, they do not possess the capacity to outright disobedient or be disrespectful to any adult. This weakness was exploited by Numbuh 1 in Operation: G.R.O.W.U.P. to simply ask the Delightful children to simply hand over the Age Cigar to him because he was an adult at the time. The Delightful Children could not disobey because of their conditioning.
  • Recommissioning: The effects of Recommissioning technology has the power to temporarily undo the effects of their "delightfulization", restoring them into former KND operatives. However because of the unique circumstances regarding their "delightfulization", these recommissioning effects are temporary.

Trivia[]

  • The Delightful Children celebrate their birthday five times a year, as they are technically five people. Each time, they prepare a delicious cake which they intend to eat it without sharing with any other kids and force their "guests" to watch as they do so. Sector V personally attempts to stop them from eating their cake at all costs whenever they celebrate their birthday, which occurs six times throughout the series and composes a recurring storyline, throughout which this simplistic scenario is repeated with several variations and exaggerated to absurd lengths.
  • In "Operation: F.O.U.N.T.A.I.N.", it was revealed that the Delightful Children were responsible for making Numbuh 1 bald, which was done in such a way that his hair would never grow back. This occurred shortly before he joined the KND, and is never shown and only briefly mentioned, leaving the circumstances of the incident up to the imagination of the viewer.
  • Several different groups of characters parodying The Delightful From Down The Lane. These include the twin spies known as The Interesting Twins From Beneath The Mountain, the synchronized team of cats known as The Sinister Felines From Atop the Litterbox, The Delightful Children's ancestors known as The Annoyingly Cute Triplets Who Lived Upon the Hill, The Delightful Children's negative counterparts known as the The Little Traitor Dudes For Children's Defense, and Sector E's enemies known as The Rowdy Hooligans From Across The Square.
  • David’s eyes have shown to be black in 2 episodes ("Operation: C.A.K.E.D-T.W.O" and "Operation: B.U.T.T"), but sky blue in the rest.
  • In "Operation R.E.P.O.R.T.", Numbuh 4's story's iteration of the Delightful Children was a direct parody of Frieza from Dragon Ball Z.
  • The Delightful Children From Down The Lane are the most reoccurring antagonists in both the Kids Next Door cartoon series and all Kids Next Door official comic series. They are also the most recurring characters in the series other than Sector V.
  • Before their names were revealed in concept art, fans often called Alessandra, Bruce, and Constance "Ashley," "Rick," and "Ogie" respectively.
  • It is not clear if the blonde girl's official name is in fact Alessandra. Though the name "Alessandra" was used in official concept art for Operation: Zero, on another ocassion, Warburton would also state that the girl's name would be "Cindy" in a Twitter post.
