The Devil is a minor antagonist in Ted's story of the 1995 computer adaptation of the 1967 short story I Have No Mouth, And I Must Scream.
Biography[]
The Devil first appears in Ellen's bedroom while Ted is attempting to rescue her, claiming to be a demon ready to bring Ellen's soul to Hell. He informs Ted that AM is in complete control of Hell. He is stopped only by an angel, who wishes to send Ellen's soul to Heaven. Before the angel arrived, the devil hid Ellen's mirror inside a copy of Dante's Inferno, so that the Angel could not use it to their advantage.
If Ted collects the mirror and shows it to the Devil, he will become entranced by it, and will dive into it to be closer to the beauty of himself, allowing the angel to send Ellen's soul to Heaven. Ted can then force him into the same summoning circle as Surgat, trapping him temporarily. Ted can then have Surgat open a portal to the surface world, only to realize that the world is decayed and inhabitable. AM will then end Ted's adventure there, dragging him back to his torture chamber.
The Devil is not seen again afterwards. It is unknown if they are really the Devil, or merely one of AM's puppets disguised as the Devil to further confuse and torment Ted.
Appearance[]
The Devil is a humanoid figure, wearing an almost entirely red outfit apart from a white collared shirt. He has a red pointed tail.
