The Director is the main antagonist of the 2011 live-action horror film The Cabin in the Woods.

She is the head of the Facility that is responsible for confining the Ancient Ones underneath the surface world, preventing them from enacting their apocalyptic actions. To further aid this, she conspired a ritual within the titular cabin, in which people inside that same cabin who have different personalities get to be sacrificed to ensure the permanence of the prevention of the apocalypse caused by the Ancient Ones.

She was portrayed by Sigourney Weaver, who also played the Zuul-possessed Dana Barett in Ghostbusters, Warden Walker in the 2003 film Holes, Frieda in Happily N'Ever After, The Big Guy in the 2011 film Paul, and Alexandra Reid in The Defenders.

Biography[]

Towards the film's conclusion, she is heard over the intercom, warning Dana and Marty that they were not meant to enter the facility. When they reach the sacrificial chamber, she confronts them and explains that everything they experienced was part of a ritual to prevent the awakening of The Ancient Ones and the end of the world. She tries to persuade Dana to kill Marty, but before she can, a werewolf attacks Dana, and Marty attacks the Director. During the chaos, she fails to notice Patience Buckner, who kills her with an axe to the back of the head. Marty then pushes her body, along with Patience, into the pit where the Ancient Ones are kept.

Trivia[]

  • Considering the meta-fictional elements throughout the film, her title of "The Director" might suggest that she is similar to the director of a horror movie, with The Ancient Ones representing the horror genre's fans and viewers.
  • Sigourney Weaver is famous for her role as Ellen Ripley in the Alien franchise, which contributed to the creation of the "final girl" trope in horror movies. She also appeared in Alien: Resurrection, which was written by Joss Whedon.
