The Dirge is the major antagonist and final boss of the DLC of 2023 Survival/action sequel Dead island 2: SOLA. He is a nigh unstoppable boss variant of the Clotter zombie who stalks the slayer throughout the music festival.
Appearance[]
The Dirge has almost the same appearance as Clotters albeit taller, similarities being the pale grey skin and cataract eyes, with the major differences being the red tinged areas (mouth, hands and chest) are more bloody than the average Clotters. The strands of grey hair are shorter than the average Clotters.
The exposed heart-like organ on his chest is also unique, along with his face, the exposed chest organ has what appears to be bone growths (most likely ribs) digging into the organ. The Dirge's mouth is completely gone, revealing his teeth and blood stained gums, his facial skin sags all the way down to his chin and collar bone which adds to his already terrifying look.
Unlike the overlapping wrinkled layers skin Clotters have including less injuries, the Dirge has more overlapping and sagging skin and in general, a more grotesque appearance.
Personality[]
Despite the fact Most zombies in dead island lack a personality, the Dirge is a major exception as it is one of the very few zombies in the Dead island franchise to actually speak, and is the most fluent speaker, Identifying it as something above the feral nature of the other infected. It also may possess a psychic mind as it speaks to the slayer in telepathy. It appears to bear a form of malicious nature as it stalks and torments the slayer around the map.
Biography[]
The Dirge first appears emerging from a pile of rotting flesh when the Slayers try to open the gate to the Eco Lounge. He sends two Clotters to attack them and later summons a horde of Clotters after they investigate the main stage. The Dirge continues to appear and torment the Slayers throughout their journey.
He makes his final debut when fights the Slayers in the eclipse nightclub while the BEAT activates, who use the Orgone Balls from the Mood Speakers around the stage to deplete its health and finally kill it.
Trivia[]
- In the entire Dead island franchise, he is the 3rd zombie who is capable of speaking english, the others being the burster and whipper variants.
- However, He is also the most fluent infected in the entire franchise, as the dirge is capable of speaking full sentences while the bursters say simple words like "help...me" and "bye-bye" and whippers roar simple aggression such as "Kill... you" and "JUST...DIE!".
- He is arguably the most powerful infected and the most powerful character in the franchise as a whole as he is practically immortal until the final fight and possesses psychic capabilities such as telepathy
