The Dollmaker is the main villain of the Tales to Give You Goosebumps story, Broken Dolls.
Biography[]
When they visit the crafts fair, Tamara and Neal Baker come across the Dollmaker's booth to observe her booth of dolls. The Dollmaker charms them, giving Neal a cookie, while at the same time smearing something over his head. The two leave after that and make little of the incident, though Tamara notices that Neal is acting strangely.
Soon after, Neal catches a fever. As his family wonders what happened to him, Tamara notices Neal's face fading away and hears him mumbling that he "doesn't want to be a dolly". Figuring that the Dollmaker might have something to do with Neal's fever, Tamara returns to the crafts fair, where she sneaks into the Dollmaker's trailer. While inside the trailer, Tamara checks several boxes filled with dolls and notices one starting to transform into Neal.
It is then that Tamara discovers that the way that the Dollmaker creates her dolls is by stealing peoples' souls and placing them into her dolls, which is why they are so life-like. The souls also remain fully conscious while entrapped in the dolls.
The other dolls come alive and beg Tamara to stop the Dollmaker. At that moment, the Dollmaker herself arrives and catches Tamara. When Tamara threatens to go to the police, the Dollmaker attempts to simply transform Tamara herself into a doll, during which she implies that she has been at this for over a century. ("Young people disappear so often in this century. You'll just be one more...")
Fortunately, Tamara takes the Dollmaker's "dolly jelly", and throws it into a water pool, which causes the Dollmaker to disappear. Immediately, the dolls start celebrating the Dollmaker's defeat, and Tamara thus returns to her house, where she learns that Neal's fever has strangely passed.
A couple of weeks later, Tamara notices that someone has left a package at her front door. When she opens it, she discovers a doll of the Dollmaker herself and deduces that the Dollmaker has tracked her down. With this insight, Tamara wastes no time tricking Neal into destroying the doll, which (presumably) destroys the Dollmaker as well.
