The unnamed Fakir, also known as "The Eyes" by his victims, is the main antagonist of the Tintin comic book Cigars of the Pharaoh and it's 1991 adaptation.
He is a fakir who is part of Rastapopoulos' opium smuggling ring, the Kih-Osh Brotherhood. He attempts to kill Tintin by any means possible so he won't be able to know their master's name, but he was defeated by Tintin and arrested by the Thompsons, only to escape during the events of the comic book The Blue Lotus.
Appearance[]
The Fakir is an emaciated man wearing a white turban on his head and an orange loincloth.
Personality[]
The Fakir is shown to love hypnotizing his victims and even poison them with the Madness poison. He also seems to be like a gangster, as seen when he is part of a criminal organization who sells drugs.
Biography[]
Cigars of the Pharaoh[]
The Fakir first appears when he commands Sophocles Sarcophagus to murder Tintin, but he fails and is berated by the Fakir for his failure. The Fakir then tries to kill Tintin by himself by hypnotizing him so he can grab his gun to shoot him, but the now-insane Sophocles takes the gun and accidentally shoots in the air, hitting a coconut tree offscreen and dropping a coconut on his head, knocking him out. He then escapes later on.
He is seen again when Zloty was about to reveal the name of the master of the opium cartel, only to be shot by a poison dart, making him mad like Sophocles. He is later seen inside a cult organization, hooded to avoid revealing their identity, but Tintin knocks them all out, disguised as one of the members. The Fakir is then tied up along with the other members but escapes due to his escapology. He then attempts to drive away with his master, only for Tintin to capture him after a long fight, but the master fell down a cliff to his "death" (later revealed to be Rastapopulous).
The Blue Lotus[]
The Fakir is mentioned in this story, having escaped prison. He is the one responsible to poison the Chinese messenger send by Wang Chen-Yee to Tintin to warn him against Mitsuhirato. At the end of the story, he is alluded to having been arrested and incarcerated again, this time presumably for good.
Trivia[]
- The Fakir is the first villain in the Tintin comic book series to have magical powers, like hypnotism and the Indian rope.
- These powers give him some similarities with animated villains such as Kaa from The Jungle Book, Jafar from Aladdin, and Rasputin from Anastasia.
