Biography[]
The "Office Workers" are a group of seemingly ordinary modern professionals who serve as the primary human antagonists or catalysts for the horror events in the Zhongyuan Unbelievers short film series. The series explores traditional taboos and the consequences of ignoring them, often showing that human malice is a greater threat than the supernatural. A key moment reveals one of these characters to be consumed by extreme envy and resentment towards another person's success, leading to a chilling monologue that suggests plotting harm: "Why is he the only one who can live so well? It doesn't matter, find him. That person's knife can be used in his life." (Rough translation of the malicious dialogue). They represent the destructive force of urban alienation and human cruelty, providing the series with its core theme that disbelief in tradition combined with wicked intentions is a recipe for disaster.
Personality[]
The characters are defined by their profound arrogance and malice.
- Envious and Resentful: They are deeply unhappy with their own lives and harbor intense jealousy towards anyone they perceive as more successful or fortunate, driving them to scheme or commit evil.
- Contemptuous: They show a dangerous contempt for traditional customs and taboos (hence the series title Unbelievers), often engaging in forbidden acts like whistling late at night in forbidden places, believing themselves above any consequence.
- Scheming and Ruthless: They are implied to be capable of extreme acts of cruelty and plotting against their peers, using the anonymity of modern life to mask their dark intentions.
