Il Gatto e la Volpe or the Fox and the Cat are the main antagonists of the 2019 Italian feature film Pinocchio. They are a pair of con artists who try to trick Pinocchio into stealing his gold coins and eating somewhere.
They are based of the same duo from the original book, The Adventures of Pinocchio.
The Fox was portrayed by Massimo Ceccherini, and the Cat was portrayed by Rocco Papaleo.
Physical appearence[]
The Fox is played by an old, tall man with messy red hair and gray sideburns, he wears dark gray clothes, and a scarf of the same color wrapped around his neck. His cat counterpart is a little shorter than him, with gray hair and wears a rumpled suit with a burgundy bow tie.
Biography[]
The Fox and the Cat first appear when they were looking for something to eat in the river. When they see Pinocchio walking through the woods and saying that he has five golden coins, the two con-artists immediately run towards the wooden boy and try to trick him, saying that they know a place called "the Field of Miracles" that multiplies everything that is planted, so the puppet only has to plant the coins in a specific place and then they will magically multiply.
But to deceive Pinocchio, the Fox said that the field only worked at dawn and convinced him to spend the night in a nearby inn, where they take advantage of Pinocchio by asking for heavy dishes and leaving him to pay. While they left, Pinocchio fell asleep and dreamt about having fun in the Field of Miracles and collecting the coins from the magical tree. When Pinocchio woke up, the inn owner told him that the Fox and the Cat left the inn and left one of his gold coins to pay the bill.
At the end of the film, the Fox appeared with his leg severed and a crutch, while his sidekick the Cat somehow became completely blind.
