The Ghost Host is the main antagonist of the Disney Parks attraction The Haunted Mansion. He is the tour guide of the mansion and the narrator of the attraction.
He was voiced by the late Paul Frees, who also voiced several of the pirates on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, Burgermeister Meisterburger in Santa Claus is Comin' to Town, and Boris Badenov in The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show. For the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay, he, was voiced by Corey Burton, who also played himself as the narrator who tells us "How to Haunt a House". In the HalloWishes firework show, he was voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson, who also voiced Kamek in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. In the 2003 live action film adaptation, he was played by Nathaniel Parker. In the Tokyo Disneyland version, he was voiced by Teichiro Hori. In the 2021 Muppet parody film Muppets Haunted Mansion, he is not a villain and is portrayed by Will Arnett. In the 2023 movie, the Hatchet Man is voiced by Ben Bladon.
Not much is known about the ghost host other than he was hung in the mansion’s gallery. After his death, The Ghost Host became omnipresent within the mansion, able to oversee all of the activity within.
Ride[]
Guests enter the mansion through a side door leading to the foyer. The Ghost Host welcomes guests to the mansion and leads them into the mansion’s gallery. As the room stretches to reveal the rest of the portraits, the Ghost Host asks if the room is stretching and that the room has no windows or doors and that there’s always his way out. The lights go out and lighting illuminates the cupola which shows the Ghost Host’s corpse hanging from a noose. The lights completely go out and a scream is heard. The lights come back on and the Ghost Host apologizes and tells them that the tour will continue and that several prominent ghosts from all over the world have retired to the mansion and that there’s 999 ghosts in the house and there’s room for 1,000 before asking if there’s any volunteers. He the says that if the guests insist on lagging behind they may not need to volunteer. When the ride begins, he tells them about how every room has ghosts and they find it delightfully unlivable in the house. After the seance room, he says that ghosts are beginning to show themselves and are assembly for a “swinging wake” and they’ll be expecting him and that he’ll see the guests later. In the graveyard, he tells them that he forgot to warn them of the Hitchhiking Ghosts and that they’ll follow the guests home, before laughing evilly.
In the Walt Disney World and Tokyo Disneyland versions of the attraction, a portrait of him can be seen in alongside the other members of the Sinister 11, that being the image of an hideous man holding a hatchet. It is also believed that many of the portraits in the mansion are of him.
The Ghost Host also narrates the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay.
Personality[]
Despite his tragic death, he keeps a hospitable and even mischievous air about him, welcoming in "foolish mortals" and jokingly threatening them throughout the ride. He seems to have embraced his position as the undead master of the house, toying with guests and even laughing at the subject of his own suicide when he shows off his hanging corpse.

The Ghost host as the How-to-do-something-Narrator made a minor unseen appearance where he narrates a presentation for Goofy as a ghost who joined the ranks of the supernatural, to demonstrate how to haunt the living.
Disney Kingdoms[]
The Ghost Host surprisingly does not appear as a major character in the Haunted Mansion miniseries of the 2016 comic book series Disney Kingdoms by Marvel Comics. However, his hanging corpse is encountered by protagonist Danny Crowe as he escapes Captain Bartholomew Gore.
Kinect Disneyland Adventures[]
The Ghost Host appears as a guide for the player in Kinect Disneyland Adventures.
Disney Parks[]
In Walt Disney World, the Ghost Host is the host of the HalloWishes firework and light show during Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, where he meets with other villains like Ursula and Jafar. In the Disneyland versions, called Halloween Screams!, the show is hosted by Jack Skellington.
The Ghost Host also makes minor appearances in other Halloween and villain shows and events, usually introducing or narrating.

Corey Burton also provided some narration for the 2003 film as an homage to the late Paul Frees, saying some of the Ghost Host's lines. Burton stated in an interview, "...the Ghost Host, to me, is the voice of the structure itself. It comes from the walls."
The Ghost Host has mistakenly been identified as Master Gracey. There was a shirt with the Master Gracey changing portrait and the words “Ghost Host” at the bottom and an ornament of the Ghost Host was briefly called Master Gracey ornament.
The Ghost Host shares a voice with The Mayor of Thunder Mesa from Phantom Manor
In the Mickey Mouse Works short "How to Haunt a House", Corey Burton's narration mimics the voice of the Ghost Host from the Haunted Mansion ride.
