Alma and Teresa Gonzalez are the main antagonists of the Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders film “La Huesuda”. The sisters are a spree killing duo desperate for answers on their brother Miguel’s whereabouts through human sacrifice.
Alma is portrayed by Liza Fernandez, and Teresa is portrayed by Ydaiber Orozco.
Biography[]
Alma and Teresa lived in Tijuana and were worshipers of Santa Muerte, Mexico’s angel of death. Their older brother Miguel crossed the border to America to start a new life, but by unknown circumstances, he died. As they lost contact, the sisters knew nothing about their brother and feared Santa Muerte was “punishing” them by leaving them in the dark and “demanding” sacrifice. Knowing a ritual that would involve human sacrifice, the sisters hoped answers would come from conducting the ritual, so they set out to find victims in the city.
The sisters started with an American student, Lee Kern, who was smuggling medical supplies to deliver them to underprivileged communities, his friend Roxy Bental conducting the operations back in America. After they killed Lee, he was painted red and hanged in a public district. They then killed tourist Robert Miller, whose arms were cut off and throat was stuffed with cigars and alcohol before he was painted blank. They finally killed gangster Julio Salazar, whose eyes were cut out before cigars were shoved in his mouth. Understanding the ritual to pair with the motives, and knowing more than one killer had to accomplish such risky murders, the profile led the Gonzalez sisters being identified.
By this point, Officer Roberto Calderon, who led the investigation and worked with the responding FBI agents, was kidnapped and prepared at their hideout. As they were about to cut out his heart with a scythe while he was still alive and screaming, the agents stopped them. The sisters originally didn’t believe the agents that there was a rational explanation to why they couldn’t find Miguel. The agents then presented a morgue photo of Miguel to demonstrate that he was dead. Devastated, the sisters wept some, then nodded at each other. Teresa shot herself dead with a revolver, but when Alma tried to stab herself with a dagger, she was tackled and arrested while she cried. She was incarcerated shortly after, but it’s presumed she still committed suicide in prison regardless.
Trivia[]
- Alma and Teresa take some inspiration from Adolfo de Jesus Constanzo, a.k.a. “The Godfather of Matamoros”, a murderous cult leader responsible for ritual murders with his followers, investigated and sieved when his cult killed an American college student in the city.
