The Grand Huntsman is one of the overarching antagonists (alongside The Archivists) of Disney Channel's fantasy animated series The Owl House.

They are one of Collectors and the deity of the Titan Trappers. Just like the others members of their group, they participated in hunting the Titans to extinction while also "preserving" other creatures, such as the Owl Beast.

They were voiced by Fryda Wolff, who also voiced the Collector and a young Emperor Belos in the same series, the Enchantress in Avengers Assemble, Poison Ivy in DC Super Friends, the Matriarch in Killing Floor, and Faora in Justice League Action.

Biography

Not much is known about the Grand Huntsman other than the fact that, just like the other Collectors, they wanted to make sure no species will truly go extinct by "preserving" them, even if they do not wish so. An example of this is seen in the episode "Knock, Knock, Knockin' on Hooty's Door", where the Huntsman captured the Owl Beast and preserved it in a scroll. As a result of their actions, they are the one inadvertently responsible for Lilith Clawthorne discovering the scroll, which led to her sister Eda getting cursed.

The Grand Huntsman's main hunting grounds seem to be away from the Boiling Isles, as their one on-screen appearance showed them next to a different Titan corpse, the same one that their worshippers lived on. As revealed in the Season 3 episode "For the Future" and then expanded upon in "Watching and Dreaming", the Collectors - more specifically, the Archivists - went to war with the Titans because they were the only ones who could cancel out their magic and thus stop them from completing their mission of preserving life. The Grand Huntsman participated in the war, and became so notorious that they became the god of the Titan Trappers, a cult of witches and demons who helped the Collectors hunt the Titans to extinction, with its leader Bill the Elder apparently even meeting the Huntsman. Over the years, all Titans were slaughtered with the sole exception of King.

There are heavy implications that the Collector is the last Collector left, which would mean that the Huntsman has died from unknown causes, most likely being killed during the Titan-Collector War. The Titan Trappers still exist and claim that the Huntsman wants to kill the last Titan still alive, that being King Clawthorne. It's unknown how true this is.

Trivia

• It's been originally thought that the Grand Huntsman and the hooded Collector from "Knock, Knock, Knockin' on Hooty's Door" are both the Collector seen in present day. However, new information revealed in Season 3 heavily implies this to not be the case, as the hooded Collector looks very similar to adult Collectors while the Huntsman has played a big part in the Titan genocide while the mainline Collector is against it. As the hooded Collector was seen next to the Titan Trapper Island, it can be assumed that they and the Huntsman are the same person.
  • However, this still doesn't explain why the Huntsman and the Collector have the exact same voice and why the Owl Beast became enraged upon seeing the latter. It's possible that it was a red herring, the Owl Beast still recognized him as a Collector even if not the same one who cursed her, or that the Collector really was meant to be the Huntsman and the one who cursed the Owl Beast, but it was retconned to make him less evil and fit his current, childlike personality.
• The Huntsman seems to be one of the Archivists. Him being family with the Collector could explain them having the same voice. Additionally, the Collector has apparently met the Titan Trappers in person (possibly before meeting Belos if his wording is anything to go by) and says they "started acting weird". While it's unknown what this means, him and the Huntsman being siblings could be a good explanation as to why Bill mistook him for the latter and started worshipping him, and thus "acting weird". However, if he is confirmed to not be related to The Collector, then he is the only Collector not associated with the Archivists that appear in the show.
