The Great Floccinaucinihilipilification, shortened to The Great Flocci is a supporting character of the 2024 Roblox RPG game Block Tales, serving as a supporting antagonist of the game fourth chapter, Excavation Exploration.
He is a genie that was stuck in a bottled ship, only to be freed by the player and offers to grant them two wishes. Though after a disagreement to have his bottle for their first wish, The Great Flocci would engage combat with the player for even thinking about that as such.
After losing, he reluctantly gives up his bottle to the player and relocates to a shovel where he coincidentally encounters them there again. Some more negotiating from the player and Calypso, and The Great Flocci also gives up his shovel and discovers that now he is free, that he plans to travel the world.
Appearance[]
The Great Flocci is a giant, muscular, navy-blue skinned genie. His eyes are always slanted, though occasionally may open to reveal that they are yellow, and has a frown. His attire consists of a purple sleeveless vest with gold trims, a turban with a blue gem and pink feather, and three tusks for his necklace. He also has no legs below his torso, and remains floating in a mobile cloud.
Biography[]
The Great Flocci makes his appearance after the player stumbles upon a bottled ship at the room they hid in to avoid a rolling stone inside the Ancient Tomb. Upon inspection of the bottle, The Great Flocci appears out of it and offers to grant the player two wishes for freeing him from the bottle. No matter the choice the player is told to pick, The Great Flocci is unable to grant that specific wish, and offers to redo the wish, though much simpler this time. For their first wish, the player requests to have The Great Flocci's bottle which he humorously brushes off. Though when the player continues to ask for the bottle, The Great Flocci becomes fed up with the player's insistent and engages a battle with them. The Great Flocci is defeated and he reluctantly gives the player his bottle, but calls them out for their behavior for it. When the player askes him to grant their next wish, The Great Flocci refuses to do such and flies off to seek another item to inhabit.
The Great Flocci ends up inhabiting a shovel inside the Temple of the Red Sun, where he coincidentally encounters the player again, now joined by Calypso. The Great Flocci appears again and becomes dismayed upon seeing the player again, who still insists their second wish from him. He still holds onto his refusal to grant them their wish, though Calypso mentions that if he simply gives the wish to them that they would stop following him. The Great Flocci, after some thinking, agrees to let the player use their second wish. The player ends up wasting it on the shovel he was just inhabiting, and although The Great Flocci is dismayed, he quickly overcomes it since the shovel was a cramped living space and that he is now free to explore the world, now flying out of the temple. It is also according to Tutorial Terry that he and his brother Jerry were also chasing after The Great Flocci for some wishes after the player had told them earlier on in the chapter.
The Great Flocci can later be refought on floor 47 of the Pit alongside a F'Ella, a Shotgun Bloke, (previously two Shotgun Blokes) and a Megaphone Man, but this doesn't affect the storyline whatsoever.
Powers & Abilities[]
- Mannequin: When beginning his fight, The Great Flocci conjures a mannequin named Doohickey as he states he cannot use magic for himself, and instead utilizes a loophole to attack the player with it.
- Fame: Doohickey wishes for the player to be famous and The Great Flocci summons Seranok's Golden Chalice of Fame to attract cutouts that jump out and attack the player multiple times. Afterwards, they will run off to the left with the chalice.
- Rich: Doohickey wishes riches upon the player. The Great Flocci then summons a rain of coins on his target that will hit them eight times and deal a single damage. After the rain stops, a giant Golden Bloxxer statue lands on the target, finishing the attack.
- Slashes: The Great Flocci slaps his target with his right hand, and then performs a knifehand strike with his left.
- Car: Doohickey wishes for a new car, and The Great Flocci summons a speeding jeep to strike all players.
Trivia[]
- The word "Floccinaucinihilipilification" in The Great Flocci's full name is the meaning for "estimation of something worthless."
- Referencing this is how both of the player's wishes were worthless, where they wished for The Great Flocci's bottle and a shovel, something that he estimates as being worthless.
- The Great Flocci was animated by Xoaterz, who also animated the Temple Guardian in the same chapter.
- According to AespriteRico on Twitter, the mannequin is named "Doohickey".[1]
- Also according to their concept art for The Great Flocci, he took inspiration from the Toad Genie from Mario Party for his body anatomy, Star Platinum from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure for his color palette, and the Forces of nature from Pokémon for his cloud waist.
- The Great Flocci sometimes speaks in Arabic where he says "Ahlan wa sahlan" and "Ila al-Liqa", which translates over to "Welcome" and "Until we meet again" respectively. He also speaks in archaic English considering his age.
- As opposed to the common trope of genies granting their user three wishes, The Great Flocci only gives the players two instead. According to him, this is because he is "compensating with inflation."
- The Great Flocci after his defeat makes a reference to the 2008 financial crisis in his dialogue, considering that the game in-universe takes place during 2010.
- The Great Flocci is the only boss in Chapter 4 to not die. The Temple Guardian collapsed to pieces on the impact of falling, Captain Trotter perished after accidentally being pushed into the lava by Calypso, and The Ancients exploded after the player and Calypso defeat them.
- This is also excluding Finn McCool, the superboss, as he is only encountered after Chapter 4 is completed and remains alive even after his defeat.
- The closeups of The Great Flocci's faces were traced over from IShowSpeed and Anthony Mackie respectively. Additionally, they have become a popular meme in the Block Tales community and fanbase.
