“ | Legends say that the Great Hog was born from lava, spat out by the Nether itself to feast on the bones of those who dare to show any resistance. | „ |
~ The Great Hog's journal description. |
The Great Hog is the main antagonist of the 2023 video game Minecraft Legends and one of the two overarching antagonists (alongside the Heart of Ender) of Minecraft Dungeons.
He is the aggressive, tyrannical leader of the Piglins who seeks to conquer the Overworld to take it for himself, and kill everything that comes across his army.
Like the rest of the Piglins, the Great Hog communicates with roars, growls and squeals.
Personality[]
The Great Hog is a cruel, arrogant and aggressive tyrant who will do anything for his own selfish desires, not caring if it hurts other people. In fact, the Great Hog goes as far as to abuse his minions who failed their mission, or just beat them for fun.
Biography[]
The Great Hog is first seen with all the generals of the Piglin hordes - the Beast, the Devourer and the Unbreakable. The Beast gives the Great Hog a banner of the Horde of the Hunt. The Piglins of the Horde of the Hunt are then sent to the portal to Overworld to invade, corrupt and kill everything in it. Foresight, Action and Knowledge then recruit the protagonist, the Hero, to fight against the Piglin army.
After many Piglin outposts are destroyed, a furious Great Hog starts choking the Beast, and violently throws him at a wall. The Seer, one of the leaders, gives the Great Hog a location to plan their next attack. Four Piglins bring the Seer a beacon. Using the Orb of Dominance, the Seer corrupts the beacon. In the Overworld, the Piglins activate the corrupted beacon, where the Overworld is then sent into eternal darkness. After the beacon is destroyed by the Hero at the Night Beacon Base, a Piglin gives the news to the Great Hog. The Great Hog, now furious, violently starts beating the Piglin, along with the other generals.
The Great Hog orders every general one by one to try to kill the Hero. After all the generals miserably fail and are killed, Piglins of every horde bring artifacts to tell the Great Hog about the fate of the generals. The Great Hog grows furious, and violently strikes the three Piglins with his staff, throwing them into the lava to their deaths. The Seer then enchants the Great Hog's staff, and he destroys a decoy of the Well of Fate to assert his dominance. He then goes through a portal and goes into the Overworld, where he and his army start their reign of terror. The Great Hog breaks the Nether portal he came from and starts going for the Well of Fate, summoning Piglins with his staff along the way.
The Hero then comes to the Well of Fate, where they meet the Great Hog. The two engage in a fight as the latter charges at the former. After the final battle, the Great Hog is severely weakened. He defeats and injures most of the Hero's ally mobs, and then throws his staff at the Well of Fate as a last resort. The staff's magic, however, is backfired, which results in a Nether rift appearing in the sky, sucking in all the Piglins in the Overworld and completely stopping their invasion. The Great Hog then collapses to his presumed death.

Trivia[]
- Though Minecraft Legends isn't confirmed to be canon yet, the Great Hog and his army is shown to be the reason the Illagers (at least the Vindicators) are so aggressive, as they have had enough of running away and have chosen to fight. Additonally, Minecraft Legends is confirmed to be canon to Minecraft Dungeons via the Orb of Dominance appearing, so one could say the Great Hog is responsible for them being aggressive in that game.
- The Great hog has elements of every horde in his design. The bones on his weapons, armour, and belt represent the Horde of the Hunt. The putrid-red cysts attached to his spears represent the Horde of the Spore. Finally, his dark-gray, metal armour and weapons represent the Horde of the Bastion.
