~ The Grout pretending to be Susan Heffley. |
The Grout is the main antagonist of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Wrecking Ball.
Biography[]
The Grout is a monster conjured up by Greg Heffley when he was younger. It often tried to traumatize him, and has stalked him throughout his house via its plumbing. Greg first imagines it when he overhears a conversation from his parents, Frank and Susan. When Susan is disgusted by the state of the grout, Greg mistakes it for a creature, not knowing that grout is actually just the cement filling in the bathroom tiles.
The Grout takes full form and terrorizes Greg whenever possible. It hides from him, which causes a paranoid Greg to think it is coming after him. He finds a Grout gun and uses it to defend himself in the event that it tries to attack him. He then worries that it may try to get him while he is sleeping, even thinking it was with him, only to be greeted with a hockey stick and clothes leaning on a chair.
Eventually Greg tells Susan about his fear. She thought it was funny and explains what grout is to Greg. He felt better for a bit, but then starts thinking that it was pretending to be her. Greg would lock his room door from then on.
Greg eventually got over his fear of the Grout, but it briefly came back after Frank pulled some hair out of the shower drain, which caused Greg to hide in his room until Frank unscrewed the hinges.
The Grout does not make another appearance until page 133, where Greg imagines it destroying the house after realizing that the plumbing may have to be accessed by the construction workers.
