| ~ Makima's speech to Denji before charging into battle with the Weapon Humans. |
The Weapon Hybrids, also known as The Horrifying Weapon Humans (恐怖の武器人間 Kyōfu no Buki Ningen) are major antagonists in the Chainsaw Man series. Originally a group of Devils who embodied the fear of varying weapons, they had their hearts inserted inside human individuals, turning them into hybrids.
These Hybrids would later on be brainwashed and controlled by Makima and used to fight against the Chainsaw Man. Following Makima's death, the hybrids broke free from her control and are currently in the employ of the Chainsaw Man Church, which is secretly being ran by the Death Devil.
History[]
Background[]
Little is known about the Weapon Devils prior to the creation of the hybrids. What is known is that these devils were responsible for defeating the powerful Chainsaw Devil, alongside the Four Horsemen, reducing him into a weakened form, known as Pochita, who ran away and would later on meet and be adopted by Denji. The Weapon Devils were devoured by Chainsaw Man, but manage to survive the fight. At some point of the story, each Devil was inserted inside the heart of a human, turning them into a hybrid:
- Reze is a Russian girl who was part of a group of children who were subjected to experiments by the Soviet government. In one of them, Reze had her heart replaced by the Bomb Devil, turning herself into the Bomb Girl. She then would start to work as a spy for the Soviet Union, operating inside Japan as a high school student. During this mission, she meets Denji and seduces him in order to steal his heart for the Gun Devil. After a long fight, Reze is defeated by Denji, but unexpectedly ends up catching feelings for the boy and even plans to run away with him. Unfortunately, she is killed by Makima and the Angel Devil on her way to apologize to him. She then gets revived and brainwashed by Makima.
- Quanxi was a Public Safety Devil Hunter who had her heart replaced with the heart of the Crossbow Devil in unknown circumstances. She became the Crossbow Lady. At some point, she left her Devil Hunter job and moved to China, where she became an assassin. During this time, she also gathered a harem of fiends that became her girlfriends and her partners in crime. Quanxi was one of the assassins tasked to kill Denji and steal his heart, mission that fails after a sudden intervention of Santa Claus and the Darkness Devil, both of which she helps her fellow Devil Hunters defeat. After the death of her girlfriends, Quanxi is cornered by Makima and killed by her. She then gets revived and brainwashed by Makima.
- An unnamed yakuza assassin who was the grandson of a debt collector made an arrangement with the private Devil Hunter Akane Sawatari in which he had his heart replaced by the Katana Devil's. He'd later on be known as Samurai Sword. As an assassin, he's tasked by the yakuza to kill Denji and bring his heart to the Gun Devil, but is quickly defeated by him, humiliated and arrested. At some point, he was brainwashed and controlled by Makima.
- Miri Sugo is a teenager who had his heart replaced by the Sword Devil. According to him, he spent his entire life being exploited by other people for his hybrid abilities. At some point, he was brainwashed and controlled by Makima.
- The Flamethrower Devil, Spear Devil and Whip Devil would turn Barem Bridge and the other two respective unnamed humans into weapon hybrids through unknown circumstances. At some point, they all got brainwashed and controlled by Makima.
Chainsaw Man[]
During one of Makima's various attempts to defeat the Chainsaw Man, she calls out the Weapon Hybrids to organize an attack on the Devil in exchange for a date with her. The Chainsaw Man defeats each one of them after a long battle, which destroys part of the city. After this, they remain inactive for a while, until Chapter 93, in which Makima, faces-off Denji, now in control of his body, where they follow her into the cemetery. Before Makima and Denji fight, the hybrids have a brief fight with him and are quickly overpowered.
After Makima's death on the hands of Denji, the hybrids have all allegedly broken out of her control. According to Miri Sugo, most of them are now currently employed by the Chainsaw Man Church, which is secretly being ran by the Death Devil. Though most of them have resumed their conflicts with Chainsaw Man.
Quanxi and Samurai Sword are revealed to be working for Public Safety itself, as they come into conflict with the other members from the Chainsaw Man Church though Samurai Sword deserts the organization for a chance to kill Denji while Quanxi allows the church members to escape with their lives along with Denji. By June 1999, Samurai Sword is detained by Public Safety and Miri Sugo resumes working with the head of Chainsaw Man Church Death Devil. Barem Bridge reassumes his torment on Denji leading to him being eaten and killed by Pochita. Reze's current whereabouts are unknown.
Personality[]
A brainwashed Quanxi vowing to protect Makima, who then offers a date as a reward for the hybrid who kills the Chainsaw Man.
The Horrifying Weapon Humans all collectively worship Makima and are subservient to her. After being brainwashed, they all seem to have fallen in love with Makima and would do anything in order to go on a date with her. They all seem determined and eager to defeat the Chainsaw Man, and are shown to be bloodthirsty and persistent. The hybrids also do not seem to care about their environment, as they carelessly destroy the entire city in their battle against the Chainsaw Man with no second thought whatsoever.
Following Makima's death, the Weapons have all reverted to their original personalities. Miri Sugo, the Sword hybrid, has shown genuine gratitude towards Denji for freeing him from Makima.
Appearances[]
The Weapon Humans, much like all of Makima's controlled slaves, appear to wear the same uniform that most Public Safety Devil Hunters wear, consisting of a business suit complete with a black blazer. Aside from Quanxi, Reze and Samurai Sword, the team introduces four other hybrids, some of whom go on to play more prominent roles in Part 2.
The four newly introduced hybrids. (from left to right: Barem, Whip, Spear and Miri Sugo).
Miri Sugo is a young fair-skinned man of seemingly average height. In his human form, he appears to have shaggy black short hair. His face bears a striking resemblance to Denji's, minus the sharp teeth. In his hybrid form, Sword Man has a demonic-like head with a pointy forehead and chin lacking any facial features besides a mouth full of pointy teeth, very similar to that of the Katana Devil. He has two swords hanging from each side of his head and each one of his arms has a blade coming out of it. Unlike the other hybrids, he does not wear a business suit, but rather a blue hoodie under the black blazer. His transformation technique is similar to Samurai Sword's, where he pulls out one of his hands like a sheath, revealing a sword underneath.
Barem is a tall fair-skinned man with black straight shoulder length hair combed all the way back, making his forehead visible. In his hybrid mode, his head is replaced by a series of flamethrower cylinders, with the guns being located in his hands. His transformation technique involves pulling one of his front upper teeth.
The Whip Hybrid appears as a short fair-skinned woman with long brown messy hair, similar to that of the Angel Devil. In her hybrid form, she possesses a scaly head with a nearly featureless face except for a monstrous mouth with sharp teeth, as well as with some hair strands sprouting out of the back of her head. She has a pair of horns on top of her head that appear to be malleable like whips. Her hands also are replaced by various whips, that serve as her fingers. Unlike her fellow devil hunters, Whip wears her coat as a cape, with her arms outside. Her transformation technique is seemingly triggered by a simple finger snap.
The Spear Hybrid is a tall fair-skinned man, about the same height as Flamethrower. He seems to be the oldest of all of the unnamed hybrids judging by his looks, as he sports grey hair, glasses and a stubble beard. He also has his left arm missing for unknown reasons. His hybrid form has a completely featureless head pointy head, in the shape of a lance's head and carries a spear on his hand, which he uses as a weapon. His transformation technique consists of pulling the spear out of the back of his neck.
