~ King Fritz to Ymir, only for her to be chased down by the Hunters. |
The Hunters whose real names are unknown, are minor yet influential antagonists in the manga and anime Attack on Titan. They were barbarians living in the tribe of Eldia, who worked under their leader Fritz. When he decided to punish one of his slaves, he decided to let the girl be hunted down for sport by these men. Only for them to unintentionally guide her to where she would obtain the power of the Titans.
Appearances[]
The three all appeared to be middle-aged men with brown hair and beards. With at least one wearing his hair in an old-style upwards ponytail. They all have fairly muscular builds and are of average height. Two of them wear old leather tunics, while one was shirtless, but wore a neckless of animal bones in the manga, which was replaced with a cape in the anime. They wore traditional animal fur crafted shorts with customary obenaltendorf styled shoes.
Personalities[]
The Hunters are portrayed as being sadistic and merciless enforcers who represent the callous nature that people had in the ancient days. They have no problem making weaker people suffer for their own enjoyment while having no qualms about it. This was noticed when the men tried to hunt down Ymir, who was still a little girl at the time. Knowing that they wouldn’t get punished as their leader is just as vicious as they are. Although one of the Hunters was seen happily praising a newly married couple, it could possibly be as they were Eldians like him and he only feels bliss for his own people, while looking down on “lesser” people such as slaves.
Story[]
Background[]
The Hunters were members of a tribe named Eldia, who acted as barbarians to the surrounding communities, burning down villages and taking its residents to be slaves for their tribe.
During the raid on a small village, one of the Hunters is seen stabbing a man to death while laughing in the manga, while he was seen standing with his fellow raiders in the anime. They would capture numerous villagers and turned them into slaves, including a young girl named Ymir.
Sometime after the raid occurred, one of the Hunters was seen cheerfully congratulating a newly married couple, while saluting his drink.
A short time after the wedding, Ymir let some pigs out of their pen, causing them to escape. The ruler of the Eldians, Fritz, allowed the three Hunters to hunt down the young Ymir as punishment. In the anime version, Ymir is seen bleeding from one eye, suggesting that she also received the punishment of having one eye gouged out for a crime. She was released into the forest while the men would shoot her with arrows while chasing her on horseback. They succeeded to shoot the girl two times with arrows, but she would nonetheless try to escape her attackers. When one of the Hunters shoots an arrow into the girl’s leg, she falls and rolls down on a small hill, causing the Hunters to lose sight of her. After continuing to search for the girl, the Hunters are completely taken aback when they suddenly witness a large beam of light spewing out of a large tree. Looking on in confusion, they view a skeletal giant erupting from the blast, not being aware that it was the same girl that they tried to kill.
It is unknown what happened to the three Hunters after this event. But because of Ymir’s compliant nature towards her oppressors, its assumed the men got away with their crimes and presumably retreated back to the village the moment they saw Ymir's Titan. Or it is possible that they brought Ymir back to the village as soon as she reverted back into a human, either the same day, or perhaps after finding her in the wilderness days after her transformation.
