“ | A figure clad in the head of a hare. A most disturbing sight. This new foe holds something human within her. Some shards of ordinary life. She seems to be a hunter. I have met many different beings in this place, but this is the first one with a natural skill of hunting. In any other place, one could deem it a talent. But her knack for tracking, capturing and killing is something else here. There is something else in here too, she seems to seek something. | „ |
~ A unknown figure on The Huntress. |
Anna, better known as The Huntress, is one of the playable killers in Dead by Daylight. She is an orphaned Russian hunter who become a hermit after losing her mother as a child from an animal attack. Throughout her life, she became a deadly feral woman who kidnaps little girls to raise them as her own.
She was voiced by Amélie Leguiader.
Biography[]
General[]
Anna lived with her parents deep within the Red Forest of the Russian Empire, being taught by her how to survive and hunt. Her father was murdered by soldiers, leaving their daughter under her mother's care. One day, however, Anna's mother was killed by an elk the two planned to eat to survive an even harsher winter. Anna, after her mother had passed, survived on her own, becoming one with the wilderness around her and grew mentally unstable--more animal than human. She saw humans as nothing but animals after watching a squad of Russian soldiers fight over a burning carcass. She changed her tactics to hunt anyone unlucky to bump into her after growing bored with the more dangerous hunts.
However, if the humans were little girls, she'd kidnap and try to take care of them herself, only for them to often waste away by her own failure to care for them properly. The repeated sorrows of seeing her "children" ("bushkas" she would call them) perish caused her to raid villages to kill families only to kidnap their young daughters to care for, causing people to label her as a cannibal, earning her the nicknames "The Huntress" and "Beast Woman." She would collect toys and trinkets from villagers and soldiers to give to the children. Eventually, war made those living in the villages near the forest to disappear, and even then, soldiers can still be found slaughtered by her brutal attacks.
When the war began to die down, The Huntress eventually came to meeting her end when suffering from horrible burns after attempting to kill a flamethrower-armed soldier. She was saved from death by The Entity, recruiting her to hunt down survivors.

In Other Media[]
- The Huntress appears in the spin-off visual novel game called Hooked on You alongside The Trapper and The Wraith.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Hunting: Anna is a natural-born hunter who knows exactly when to strike. Her prey ranged from small to larger animals such as squirrels, foxes, wolves, and bears. She surprisingly managed to take on Russian and German cavalries all on her own.
- Weaponry: Anna is known to be a ferocious user of her broad axe and hatchets.
- Throwing: She possesses great precision with her hatchets.
- Chemistry: She is an adept chemist as she applies natural toxins to her axes including those from the common European viper venom and Amanita mushrooms.
- Intimidation: Huntress garnered a reputation of being a terrifying hunter of the wilderness.
- Singing: During Hunting and always in a trial, she sings a Russian children's lullaby, Bayu Bayushki Bayu. Her ability to sing the song well suggests she's a decent vocalist.
- Peak Human Agility and Strength: Training herself over the years to peak human level, Anna can outmaneuver her enemies with surprising speed. Her strength is demonstrated by brutal slaughter of animals and humans via broad axe and bare hands.
- Stealth: Huntress is amazing at stealth and slipping and killing her targets undetected.
Trivia[]
- Huntress represents the "skilled hunter"-type genre killer, one who doesn't appear smart at first, but is quickly revealed to be very persistent and skilled in hunting just as much as a normal human being.
- She is illiterate and non-verbal; however, her Tome 3: Escalation segment "A Lovely War" shows she can audibly understand Russian speech and even speak it, but not when written.
- The Huntress was the first Killer in Dead by Daylight to have a ranged attack. The other four Killers to have an attack like this come after her, being The Clown, The Plague, The Deathslinger, and The Trickster.
- She was the second killer to be given a nickname/primary alias before coming to the Entity's Realm beside the menu showing it as an official name, with the first being The Doctor. She was called "The Huntress" by the villagers as a folktale known for being a "half-beast who killed men and ate little girls." However, it is confirmed she never hurts or attacks children.
- Huntress was the first "tall" female Killer, followed by The Plague.
- She was the first killer to use a two-handed weapon, much less one that isn't linked to her power.
- The lullaby she hums is a real Russian song called Bayu Bayushki Bayu (баю баюшки баю), which warns children not to sleep close to the edge of their bed and stay in the middle or else a little gray wolf will snatch them and kill them.
- It's unknown as to why Huntress chose to never harm the little girls she kidnapped. But it can be inferred she wishes to become a mother or act as a mother to little girls, assuming they also have no mother and Anna wishes to give them what she never had.
- She was defined by the soldiers as a "bodark," a type of werewolf from Russian and Slavic folklore that is said to have gained the shapeshifting ability out of their own will through a ritual, and is not affected by the lunar cycle. These lycanthropes are known to be even deadlier than other werewolves due to having full control over their actions (see Official Dead by Daylight Wiki: Anna/Trivia).
- Another type of Russian lycanthrope is the "Volkolak," a shapeshifter like the Bodark but turns into both a wolf and a bear, further hinted by the emblems on her perks Beast of Prey (bear) and Territorial Imperative (wolf).
- Her pitch-black eyes are a likely hint that she is a Bodark or Entity influence.
