The Persian Immortals, also better known as simply the Immortals, are antagonists of the 2007 film 300, based on the graphic novel 300 by Frank Miller. They are humanoid soldiers who act as elite warriors and bodyguards of Xerxes.
Biography[]
It is unknown of the origin of the Immortals, but they have served as bodyguards for Persian Kings for five hundred years. They wore black clothing with grey armor and used katana-like swords. They also wore masks to hide their humanoid faces. The Immortals also served in the Persian Navy.
Battle of Thermopylae[]
The 300 Spartans including a few thousand Arcadians discover a burning village on their way to Thermopylae, there they discover that the Immortals have killed the villagers and pinned their bodies to a dead tree. Later after the first failure to defeat the 300 Spartans at the Hot Gates, King Xerxes I sent in his legions of Immortals (including a muscular, orc-like giant) late at night. The Spartans nonetheless manage to defeat the Immortals with few losses, with slight help from the Arcadians. Xerxes sends his newest servant, Ephialtes, to lead the Immortals to traverse a secret path, encircling the Spartans. After the deaths of the 300 Spartans, the Immortals and the rest of the Persian Army marched on Athens and commited many atrocities.
In the end, the Immortals were victorious when the Persians discovered a hidden entrance in the pass.

Several Immortals served under Artemisia on her ship as her bodyguards. Most of them are killed during the Battle of Salamis by Athenian General Themistocles.

- In real life, the Persian Immortals was the name given by Herodotus to an elite heavily-armed infantry queued unit of ten thousand soldiers in the army of the Achaemenid Empire. In real life, they wore colorful clothing and carried spears and shields made of wicker.
