The Kid is a major antagonist in the "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs", the first story of the 2018 film of the same name.
He is a young outlaw who kills Buster Scruggs, the former hegemon of a settler town in the early stages of the US.
He is portrayed by Willie Watson.

The Kid has a polite demeanour, but a dark mystery to him. He does not say much, and is evidently depicted as the foil to Buster Scruggs and his egotistic arrogance.

Buster Scruggs had developed a reputation as the quick-drawing duellist who few stood up to. The Kid was not known to the town prior to his arrival.
The Ballad of Buster Scruggs[]
After Scruggs showcases his skill by killing Curly Joe and his brother, The Kid arrives and challenges Buster to a duel. Buster once again ambles to the audience about his ability to win any duel as the "top-dog" of the town, but before he can finish his monologue, The Kid shoots Buster square between the eyes.
This leads Buster to realise his power has finally been bested, and as his soul departs from his body, The Kid and Buster sing together a symbolic ditty about the fleetingness of power.
