| ~ Noone's description of The Kin |
The Kin is a major antagonist in the 2025 horror adventure game Little Nightmares III as well as in the audio fiction series, The Sounds of Nightmares. He is an abnormally slender and tall humanoid in charge of managing the Carnevale in the Nowhere alongside Mini-Kin.
Characteristics[]
The Kin does not speak, similar to other Little Nightmares characters. However, his actions reveal more on his character. The Kin's main occupation involves enslaving children so that they may be forced to perform in the Carnevale. He does so alongside the help of his companion, Mini-Kin.
In the Sounds of Nightmares, The Kin is shown to first approach those he desires to perform with patience rather than brute force. He is quick to realize that Noone did not react to the final act of the show. Noone began to hear voices and The Kin calmly asked her if she would like to become part of the performance. The Kin later would also be shy from the attention he received from the Carnival show.
In contrast to this, Little Nightmares III shows a much more grotesque side of The Kin. Throughout the chapter, there are glimpses of The Kin's true nature. The Kin seems to represent a twisted version of traditional ringleaders, taking many tricks quite literally (such as being implied to have sawed a Carnevale attender in half rather than the classic trick). He also seems to have an obsession with surgically removing pieces of the Carnevale's victims, most likely to feed Mini-Kin.
Appearance[]
The Kin is a tall, slender humanoid creature with a disproportionately large head. He is known for his signature purple suit, which also has a red bowtie in the center. Out of his right hand grows the Mini-Kin, who can be detached at his will. The Kin is also described as lacking eyes but still being able to see.
Biography[]
The Kin is first teased shortly after Low and Alone explore some of the exterior of the Carnevale. Upon using the lever to turn on the lights, Low and Alone sneak past the Carnevale tent that lights up, revealing The Kin's silhouette inside using his radio.
The Kin seen truly for the first time after Low and Alone navigate further into the Carnevale after using the roller coaster. Upon entering a room through a vent, the duo sneak past the sleeping Kin and Mini-Kin. They attempt to pull a plank off the wall to proceed, but wake up The Kin in the process. The Kin releases Mini-Kin to attack Low and Alone who narrowly hide.
Low and Alone, realizing they need a lever to go down a chute, continue sneaking and hide under some shelves. Meanwhile, Mini-Kin repeatedly bangs a metal bowl against the table to attract The Kin, whom comes in the room. The table has the body of a Herd member, who's jaws have been surgically removed. The Kin takes a knife and digs into the Herd's body to grab an organ and feed it to the Mini-Kin. After Low and Alone manage to grab the lever from the other side and turn on a saw to distract Kin and Mini-Kin, they go back to the lever to use it to crank up the trapdoor. They once again narrowly jump down and escape.
The Kin is once again seen later by intercepting Low and Alone in an elevator after they ran from Mini-Kin, whom had ambushed them. The Kin kidnaps Low and Alone, who manage to escape by distracting the Kin by shooting a glass jar containing a Nome. They continue and eventually end up under the wooden floor. The Kin is again seen above them chasing the Nome they released, catching it and taking killing it by biting a piece of its chest out. The Kin throws the Nome into another Mini-Kin bowl.
The Kin is seen later when Low and Alone get into a large room with a central light. The Kin forces a child to perform by juggling various objects whilst he menaces them with Mini-Kin. After Low and Alone get a key from the same room, The Kin is notified by a blaring alarm after they exit through a door. He chases them through several corridors, crushing doors and walls in the process before they narrowly make it to a hot air balloon. The Kin angrily goes into a room and shows up seconds later with a shotgun, attempting to fire it at Low and Alone. He is unsuccessful with catching them, and the duo successfully escape, marking the last appearance of The Kin.
Trivia[]
- The Kin is one of the only antagonists in Little Nightmares to use a firearm, the other being The Hunter.
- The Kin and Mini-Kin are the second crime duo in the franchise, the first being the Twin Chefs.
- The Kin and Mini-Kin appear to enjoy spending time with each other, as shown by several instances of a large chair appearing next to a smaller one.
