~ Burt Klane confronting Webster after being insulted.

The Klane Brothers: Burt, Bob, and Morris are the primary antagonists of the 1988 comedy movie, Twins. They are a couple of loan sharks and crime bosses whom Vincent Benedict owes money to. They are sometimes accompanied by their cousins, Sam and Dave.

They were portrayed by the late Maury Chaykin, Tom McCleister, and David Efron.

Biography[]

At some point, prior to the events of the movie, the Klane brothers: Burt, Bob, and Morris have loaned Vincent Benedict $20,000. Unfortunately, when his time is up and Benedict finds himself unable to pay, they try to find him. Burt tries to look for Benedict at the diner where Benedict's girlfriend, Linda Mason and her sister, Marnie work at. Luckily, the sisters manage to throw Burt off-track while Benedict crawls away unnoticed.

The next morning, just when Benedict is about to collect the money from a car he intends to steal and sell at a chop shop, Morris suddenly comes in and starts to beat him up until he suddenly finds himself fighting Vincent's long-lost fraternal yet muscular twin brother, Julius, which eventually ends with him losing and getting badly injured before being sent down the elevator by Vincent who further tells him to tell his brother, Burt that if he messes with him, he messes with his whole family. Later, at night, Burt calls up Vincent and warns him to bring their money tomorrow morning while blowing up part of his house to prove their point if he refuses.

The next day, all three brothers (Morris in a neck brace and an arm cast now) barge in to deal with Benedict, only to find someone else named Webster also looking for the same person as well due to having stolen the same car the latter intended to steal and sell the other day. After introducing themselves and exchanging insults, Burt orders Bob to hurt Webster, but both Bob and Morris end up getting shot in the legs while Burt is held at gunpoint by Webster in self-defense as a warning to keep away from Vincent. After Webster leaves, Burt goes over to call a doctor.

A few days later, having received a tip from the Mason sisters' former boss about their whereabouts, the Klane brothers (both Bob and Morris in leg casts now) find both the sisters and the twins at a bar late at night in Arizona and confront them. When Morris aims to take Vincent out to the parking lot and kill him before being stopped by Julius again, Burt threatens to shoot Marnie before introducing the twins to their cousins: Sam and Dave Klane to waste them. Luckily, both twins manage to subdue both the brothers and their cousins and leave them completely beaten.

Trivia[]

  • It is unknown what happened to both the Klane brothers and their cousins after they were subdued by the Benedict twins for good at the bar. It is possible that they were arrested afterwards for their crimes including recently disturbing the peace and attempting murder/assault in public.
  • It is unknown which brother is the eldest and youngest despite Vincent Benedict referring to Burt as the "Baby Klane", Bob making the introductions to Webster, Morris looking younger than his brothers, and Burt looking as though he were the boss since he's the one giving the orders all the time.
  • Given the fact that they have cousins working for them in the same business, it is possible that the Klane brothers come from a whole family and long line of gangsters and loan sharks.
  • It is unknown if their cousins are either brothers or cousins to each other as well despite the same family name.
