The Extinct World version of the Lich, nicknamed "Jerry" by BMO, is the secondary antagonist of Season 1 of the MAX adult animated television series Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake, the sequel series of the Cartoon Network original series Adventure Time.
He is an alternate version of the Lich who succeeded in his quest to exterminate all life, presumably after wishing for it to Prismo. However, thanks to his wish, The Lich fell into a depressive and nearly catatonic state due to there being no more life to kill, but the visit of Fionna Campbell, Cake the Cat, Simon Petrikov and Scarab to his universe peaks his interest.
Like his other counterparts, he was voiced by Ron Perlman, who also played Clayface in the DC Animated Universe, Pap Finn in The Adventures of Huck Finn, Mr. Grasping in An American Tail: The Treasure of Manhattan Island, Drekk in Men in Black: The Series, Count Nikolas Rokoff in The Legend of Tarzan, and Slade in Teen Titans.
Appearance[]
He appears identical to the main version, but the skin of Billy has decayed heavily with time. More of the Lich's bones are exposed thanks to flesh rotting away, and his beard appears to now be in knots. One of his eyes also appears to have fallen out of the socket and hangs from it now, appearing to be decaying.
Personality[]
This version of the Lich appeared to be identical to his main timeline counterpart in virtually every way. However, it was revealed that this and presumably the other versions of himself did not seek omni-extinction as an end goal or even a goal in and of itself. The Lich, as the last scholar of GOLB, performed his actions as an almost religious right to his master, GOLB. Later on, when appearing before GOLB, the Lich prostrated and bowed down to GOLB, chanting as a cultist or fanatic would clasping his hands in prayer. The Lich seemingly did everything he did and devoted his life for GOLB, aiming to eradicate all life in order to follow its teachings and act as its vassal on the physical planes. He believed that doing so would attract GOLB's attention and praise for the Lich's efforts.
However, once the Lich had succeeded in killing all life, GOLB neither responded nor gave any signs to its intentions or even that it noticed the Lich's efforts. His sole reason for existence was thus rendered null and void, and he grew despondent and frustrated when only nothing existed at the end of his quest. This realization apparently led him to have solemnly readied himself for an eternity of loneliness with the knowledge that his objective was now complete and he no longer had a purpose, a realization that resulted in a nigh-absolute mental shutdown. With no life to eradicate in the reality he resided in, the Lich did nothing but sit atop a pile of bones in solitude. It appeared his only companion in this dead world was BMO, who gave him the name Jerry.
Even when the chance to kill newly arrived life presented itself, the Lich chose not to, seemingly showing that he no longer had a drive to cause mass death and extinction. Though he had succeeded in killing all life in his reality, he claimed that it brought him no satisfaction as it brought him no closer to GOLB nor even any recognition from his god. While Simon claimed the Lich was depressed, the Lich would actually be suffering from a crisis of faith and existential despair, seeing no value to anything any longer with his choice to spare Simon, Fionna and Cake being less about an epiphany on the futility of his actions and more about having seen no value in doing anything at all.
Biography[]
Background[]
Somehow, this version of The Lich succeeded in killing all life, presumably by the wish that the original Lich made to Prismo the Wishmaster at the Time Room in "Finn The Human" if him wearing Billy's skin is of any indication. Life was wiped out instantly, leaving BMO as the only remaining being due to being non-organic. However, with nothing more to kill, the Lich found himself all alone and, ironically, fell into a state of depression. BMO eventually found the Lich in his den, and "befriended" him, presumably to his apathy, naming him Jerry.
Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake[]
Fionna Campbell, Cake the Cat and Simon Petrikov arrive in the extinct world in search of the magic Ice Crown. After searching for awhile, Fionna finds the crown, but hides it after discovering what Simon will become when he puts it on. After BMO sacrifices himself in an attempt to re-power the remote, Cake suggests they tell his friend Jerry the bad news. It is then, when the cast discovers the Lich in his den, atop a mound of skeletons.
Upon noticing the intruders, the Lich expresses confusion at Simon's continued life, but opts not to kill him, which is the clue Simon needs to put together that the Lich is depressed. After Fionna reveals she actually does have the crown, which she found in the ruins of the Ice Kingdom, they recreate the summoning ritual to send her and Cake back to their world, using the Lich as a magic battery. After they are sent home, Scarab arrives, ready to finish his mission. Simon thinks of Betty Groff, activating a portal to GOLB, which Simon and Scarab fall into. This causes the Lich to react strangely, his pupil turning into an image of GOLB.
The Lich and Simon arrive in GOLB’s dimension, and the former prays to his master, explaining that despite achieving in his quest within his universe, he‘s gotten no satisfaction from it. He also explains that he wished to bring extinction to all life in honor of GOLB, and demands his master to explain what more he could do for him. However, GOLB becomes angered by the Lich and transforms his body into a hendecahedron within his dimension, either killing him for good or presumably leaving him imprisoned within the realm for eternity.

Trivia[]
- Some theorise that all of the multiple 3d shapes that were floating within GOLB's realm were all actually other Liches from universes where they too succeeded and came to GOLB after losing their purposes. Alternatively, they may be other servants of GOLB and not necessarily other Liches.
