The Lord High Executioner is the secondary antagonist of the 27th Goosebumps book A Night in Terror Tower. He is the Executioner of King Robert, and enemy of Susan, Eddie, and Morgan.
Appearance[]
The Executioner is a stocky and buff male who appears to have a hunchback. He wears a green tunic with torn edges with black gloves boots, and a pointed mask.
In the TV series, the Lord High Executioner's appearance was drastically changed. He was played by Robert Collins and was depicted as a tall fairly ordinary man, of thin build, sporting facial hair, and all of his attire is black. He first appears masquerading as a Tower museum waxwork; only to come to life and follow the children when Eddie knocks his hat off as a prank.
The 2015 movie features him again in his second live-action appearance. However, he is minor antagonist in this film adoption, acting only as a background monster. This incarnation is stout, of heavy build, and bare-chested, with his mask and cape merged into one attire.
Personality[]
The Lord High Executioner really takes his job very seriously. He is very cruel, sadistic and he would not show any mercy to his prisoners if they do not cooperate with him. He is one to strike fear in many hearts of others, making them never dare to go against his authority. Being loyal to King Robert's government, he proved to be quite corrupt and uncaring as he had been attempting to do away with two children under King Robert's orders. Although it could be possible that he is just taking orders (and possibly fearing for his own life if he failed to carry them out).
The TV series retains much of his persona with a number of differences: he was very sinister and coldly affable throughout, yet is utterly afraid of rats (most likely due to the Plague at the time he is from).
Biography[]
The Executioner is actually a member of the royal court, and along with all the other members, was brainwashed by King Robert. Robert sent him to kill Edward and Susannah, but Morgred sent the kids forward in time. However, the spell was incomplete. The Executioner followed them to London, but they stayed hidden until Morgred updated them.
In Return, the best ending has him and the rest of the royal court snapped out of their trance after Robert is defeated. They welcome Edward and Susannah to the throne.
