~ 2BDamned describes The Machine. |
The Machine is one of the overarching antagonists of the Madness Combat web animation series. It is a powerful, mysterious entity implied to be one of the Higher Powers and linked to Nevada's reality.
Biography[]
The Machine is a metaphysical construct of incomprehensible scale that is linked to Nevada's reality and bond with every life and everything in Nevada. It is first mentioned after completing the stage The Goods in MADNESS: Project Nexus' Arena Mode by 2BDamned.
The Machine seems to be breaking down during Arena Mode, with it being stated by both the Gambler and The Maker that if the Player does not retell his story, Nevada will be destroyed. It seems to be a member of the Higher Powers, as it is stated by the Gambler that The Machine is the sibling to The Maker, who is the "Highest Power". This implies that The Machine is not only a Higher Power, but among the most powerful. During the stage Mandatus, The Machine creates its avatar known as the Grand Steward to fight the Player before the Grand Steward is destroyed and The Machine becomes temporarily malfunctional.
The Machine is referenced in Madness Combat 9.5 with the line 'MachineWitness processing...' followed by Hank's status with the Retainers. It is later mentioned by name in Madness Combat 12, where it is described as giving Hank a 'new charter' to revive him.
Powers[]
While not knowing much about of The Machine, we can definitely know that it is able to warping reality. Doc states that The Machine can summon Clockworkers and Cog Wreckers and even natural cataclysms when it "visits" reality. However, he explained that The Machine almost does this indirectly and is not on purpose.
When the Player goes to fight The Machine's avatar, the Grand Steward in the stage Mandatus, it begins teleporting him into a strange and dangerous place and summons its own minions. Also, in one of the moments, The Machine warped and literally "rebuilt" reality, and showed the Grand Steward.
In the second Imprint's ending, The Maker states that everything that exists is part of The Machine's limitless sprawl.
