The Magician is one of the three secondary antagonists (alongside the Mime and Badoom) of the 2023 animated musical superhero film Ladybug & Cat Noir: The Movie. She is a female criminal Akumatized by Hawk Moth into a villain with vast magical powers, and seeks to obtain Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculouses for him. She is the Mime's partner.
In the French dub, she was voiced by Flora Kaprielian. In the English dub, she was voiced by Shelby Young, who also voiced Captain Bragg in Star Wars: The Bad Batch, and the Mini-Pufts in Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
History[]
Prior to her appearance in the film, she gained a reputation as one of the most wanted thieves in Paris, alongside her male partner; although the two of them would eventually be caught and imprisoned. She would eventually be broken out of prison and Akumatized into the Magician by Hawk Moth, alongside her partner and several other criminals, to serve as the former's minions in his quest to seize Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculous. The next day, she and the Mime would appear in Paris and attack a bank, drawing the attention of the police. Magician and Mime use their respective abilities to easily overwhelm the police and head off elsewhere. Magician and Mime later arrive at Paris' back to school fair and separate, intent on getting Ladybug and Cat Noir's attention.
Magician uses her abilities on many of the fair's attractions, bringing different rides to life and animating toy prizes to attack the fair's attendants. The chaos forces Marinette Dupain-Cheng to accept her role as Ladybug to rescue the fair's attendants, and she rescues a baby from being attacked by Magician's balloon animals. However, the baby is instead revealed to be another balloon creature, Badoom, whom Magician grows to gigantic proportions. Magician demands Ladybug relinquish her Miraculous and sets Badoom to attack her. Cat Noir arrives to save Ladybug from Badoom, and aids her in stopping Mime and Magician's attacks; both realizing that their powers are stronger when they are together.
Magician then uses her magic to make the fair's rollercoaster go out of control and orders Badoom to dislodge the Ferris wheel, forcing Ladybug and Cat Noir to split up to deal with both; Ladybug chasing after the coaster, and prevents Magician from crashing it into the ground. Together, the heroes hit Mime off of the Ferris wheel, knocking him into the Magician, who both become trapped inside Badoom. Ladybug quickly forms a plan and has Cat Noir guide the Ferris wheel to the Louvre, where it pins Badoom and pops him. Magician and Mime are freed by this and subsequently de-Akumatized; moments later, an illusion of Hawk Moth appears to threaten Ladybug and Cat Noir, and the former captures Magician and Mime's akumas. Afterwards, Magician's civilian form is then returned to prison.
