The history of The Misfits from the 1985-1988 Jem animated series.
Origins[]
Consisting of Phyllis "Pizzazz" Gabor, Roxanne "Roxy" Pellegrini and Mary "Stormer" Phillips - it's never specified how nor when The Misfits exactly formed, but they had been scouted by music executive Eric Raymond sometime around the time of the death of Emmett Benton - the founder and CEO of Starlight Music record company. Due to Emmett's death, this allows Eric to temporarily usurp Starlight Music - even though Emmett left half of it to his daughter, Jerrica Benton - who begins to push Misfits as the "fresh blood" of music company to signify the start of his tenure.
"Truly Outrageous" story-line (Ep. 1-5)[]
The Beginning[]

| ~ Pizzazz getting offended (Ep. 1) |
The Misfits enter the story when Jerrica Benton goes to visit Starlight Music to get some money to fix up problems at the Starlight House. She gets inside the CEO's office that's now occupied by Eric Raymond, who refuses her to access the company assets that she is legally entitled to. Raymond then tells that he is planning to take the record company further than ever before, and make it the biggest in the country. He then reveals to Jerrica that he is planning to achieve this with a new band, and on cue, the Misfits enter the office one by one on guitar-shaped motorcycles.
Jerrica orders the Misfits to take the motorcycles out of her father's former office. Eric reminds Jerrica that he is the boss now, while Pizzazz voices dismay towards Jerrica's attitude. Pizzazz warns Jerrica to stay out of her way and when Jerrica puts a brave face, the Misfits begin singing "Outta My Way."
Eric then tells that he's arranged a battle of the bands at a nearby park tomorrow, with Pizzazz, along with Roxy, telling that Misfits are going to win, since the contest is essentially a promotional "can crusher" show (i.e. they are the only actual talent with other performers being bad). Jerrica protests to Eric for using the company to promote "trash" like The Misfits, which upsets Pizzazz and approaches Jerrica with a raised fist. Eric de-escalates the tension between the two, again reminds Jerrica that he is charge of Starlight Music, prompting her to leave.
Before the battle of the bands, Jerrica and co. discover Synergy, who provides Jerrica and her friends the means to become Jem and the Holograms music band. Then its the day when Eric Raymond's battle of the bands is held, and as planned, the audience is not too impressed by the proverbial "tomato can" musicians. Hearing the audience is reaction, Pizzazz thinks the contest is a done deal. But as Raymond tries to declare The Misfits the winners, Jem and the Holograms interrupt the event by singing "Only The Beginning." The audience diverts towards Jem's group as Eric and The Misfits look at stunned dismay.
They finish their song and introduce themselves to the enthused audience, with Raymond yelling at them for interfering in a invitation-only contest. But thanks to the holographic abilities, Jerrica/Jem manages to keep her secret identity while going to talk with Raymond. The two have a talk, with Raymond then declaring a challenge to Jerrica; in six months, they'll hold a new battle of the bands, and if Jem wins, Jerrica gets total control of Starlight Music. But in exchange, if Misfits win, he will get total control. Jerrica accepts, with film producer Howard Sands appearing and offering a movie deal, as well as a magnificent mansion, to the contest winner.
While Jerrica and co. are occupied, The Misfits get on The Hologram's set and steal their musical instruments, loading them on their black van. Aja of the Holograms alerts Jerrica about this development, but The Misfits speed off before Jerrica and co. can catch them by foot. Jerrica and the Holograms board their Rockin' Roadster and chase down The Misfit's van, driving by a coastal scenic road by the ocean. Roxy alarms Pizzazz - who is driving the van - about the Holograms "wanting their junk back", and she tells Roxy and Stormer to "let 'em have it." Roxy and Stormer toss the instruments at Holograms' roadster, which causes it to veer off and nearly drive off a cliff. Stuck on the edge, the Holograms survive by projecting a image of Jem to get attention of Rio Pacheco, who then comes to save them.
Back at Starlight Music's CEO office, Eric reprimands the Misfits, not only for getting the press involved and giving "millions of dollars" worth of publicity to Jem and the Holograms by covering the near-death incident, but also for being lucky that they didn't call the police on them. Pizzazz tells Raymond to "lighten up", with the other two Misfits coming in defense. Eric then tells the Misfits that he will handle sabotage of The Holograms' goals from now on, with Pizzazz and co. green-lighting this by starting to sing "Winning is Everything."
Indeed, Eric Raymond later calls a thug named Zipper to break into Starlight House to try unnerve Jerrica and others. Zipper's burglary goes sour when he is spotted by the Holograms and as he flees, he knocks off a oil lamp held by Jerrica's sister, Kimber, which causes a fire to break out, which subsequently burns the entire house down.
Disaster[]
The next morning, Pizzazz and the Misfits arrive at the burned down Starlight House on their black van. Stormer appears slightly concerned about what's happened, while Pizzazz scoffs that it "couldn't have happened to a nicer person." Jerrica and co. try to figure out how to get the orphans to a new sanctuary, with Jerrica getting the idea to go to Howard Sands. The Holograms take their own van (Starlight Express) while Rio takes the orphans on his own, with Pizzazz noticing this and deeming that something is up. The Misfits decide to tail them.
While The Holograms continue their drive, Aja spots that The Misfits' van is following them. Aja tries to lose them, but this just gets Pizzazz excited for some action. After being unable to shake the Misfts' van, Aja deems they can't shake them off, with Jerrica concocting a plan using Synergy's holographic capabilities.
The Holograms' van drives into an alley and turns into a trash container, with Misfits driving past it. The Misfits realize they lost The Holograms, with Stormer then spotting Rio's van and Pizzazz deeming that they'll following his van instead. Meanwhile, The Holograms go to Starlight Drive-In to get new clothes and change their vehicle to the Rockin' Roadster.
The scene then changes to Howard Sands' estate, where he wakes up to Jem and the Holograms playing "Like A Dream." While the people gathered at the house cheer The Holograms, The Misfits' van arrives and upon exiting begin jeer the show, with Pizzazz mockingly telling them to "not quit their day-job." Pizzazz calls Roxy and Stormer to mess up The Holograms, with Rio alarming The Holograms about their arrival.
Jem goes to hide to change back to Jerrica, while The Holograms stop The Misfits' approach, trading insults. Jerrica returns to the scene of the argument, while Sands orders everybody to stop arguing. Jerrica then shows the foster children who now have no home, due to the Starlight House burning down. Pizzazz mocks Jerrica's tear-jerker story, with Roxy joining to mock Jerrica. Sands deduces that Jerrica is asking to allow her, The Holograms and the foster children to stay at the mansion that's prized for future competition, just as a temporary measure.
Pizzazz protests with other Misfits joining her, but Sands reminds that the mansion still belongs to him and that he can use it how he sees fit -- relinquishing it only after the contest. Sands agrees to let the children there, which angers Pizzazz, who - absolutely refusing to let the Holograms have their way - pushes Sands into a pool.
Roxy then boards a nearby bulldozer, attempting to destroy the mansion. The Holograms help the children out of its way, before Roxy is forced to jump out due to a tree-branch getting inside its cockpit. Jerrica accidentally stumbles backwards while trying to rescue Sands, and ends up in the path of the runaway bulldozer. Luckily, she is saved just in time by Rio, with Aja then bravely boarding the bulldozer to turn its engine off. Pizzazz realizes that they are in trouble and flee the from the scene on their black van. Although Sands is utterly grateful to the Holograms, he reminds them that the deal is still that if Misfits win the contest, they win the mansion.
The Misfits have gone to Starlight Music to talk to Eric, complaining about The Holograms now temporarily occupying the prize mansion. Eric tells his hands are tied, since he is doing everything to avoid Sands from launching a lawsuit for what Misfits did at his estate. Eric irately shoves the Misfits out of his office, telling that he does plan to do something to get The Holograms out of the prize mansion.
After Eric slams the door on them, Pizzazz angrily kicks a nearby trashcan for being upset at Eric's bossy attitude and decides to go the mansion, despite Eric's warning not to. As they head out, Eric again calls Zipper for a job, who subsequently enters the mansion when Rio and some other staff are bringing The Holograms equipment inside.
The Misfits appear at the gates of the mansion, with Pizzazz grumbling that she wants in so bad that she could scream. Soon enough, Ashley, one of the foster children who is upset about how she is treated, spots them and decides to bargain for money to allow them to enter. Pizzazz initially offers $20, but Ashley is insistent on $30, with Pizzazz (despite being the richest of the three Misfits) then telling Roxy to pay her, who then tells Stormer to pay, who submits to peer pressure. Ashley is paid and she goes to open the gate, while Zipper is inside the mansion to search for a good place to plant a time bomb.
Elsewhere in the mansion, Jem and The Holograms are filming a music video, with The Misfits crashing in riding a clothes rack, resulting in a chaotic duet song "Click Clash." The Holograms move outside for a photo-session, while Zipper sets the bomb. Eric arrives to the mansion in his black neoclassic automobile to see if Zipper pulls his job off. But he spots the Misfits at the Holograms vicinity and knowing about the bomb, runs to the gates and yells the Misfits to run away from the mansion.
The bomb explodes and blows a hole in one of the mansion's wings and scattering debris across the courtyard. Everybody seems to survive the explosion and the police arrive on the scene. The police come investigate and ask if anybody was hurt, with Pizzazz complaining that she is scratched everywhere -- despite looking mostly fine, with other Misfits' clothes and hair being damaged by the bombing. When interviewed by a reporter, Eric claims that deranged Jem fan send a death-threat and was responsible for the bomb, and that he came to try save The Misfits.
Soon Countess Danielle Du Voisin enters the scene, asking if Sands is fine, with him then introducing the Holograms to the Countess. She invites Sands, The Holograms and Rio to the party at her yacht, but as she attempts to leave, The Misfits run into her. Eric introduces the Misfits to the Countess, but she is not too impressed by them and does not invite them.
Jem them calls out for the Misfits to help clean the debris caused by the bomb, but they refuse and leave, but not before proclaiming that they will win the upcoming music contest. But this was a gambit by Jem to just get them leave and fix the situation on her own terms and without their interference.
Later at the Countess' yacht during night-time, The Holograms and Rio get aboard. There they meet music news host Lindsey Pierce and film director Anthony Julian, latter who agrees to do music video for them. All this time, Misfits have been on a boat, staking out the yacht, and deem its time to crash the party. As Jem and Rio have a talk about Jem's true identity at the side deck, The Misfits sunrise them, with Pizzazz blasting them with a spray water bottle. The Misfits proceed to terrorize the yacht occupants while singing "Makin' Mischief."

The Fan[]
While the Misfits are lounging about, Pizzazz finds out from a newspaper that Prescott Wentworth, a Jem superfan, is ready to pay exuberant amounts of money to find Jem's real identity. Pizzazz determines that Prescott is the key to destroying Jem's career and she takes the Misfits to him.
Pizzazz rings the doorbell at Prescott's manor - which looks awfully lot like the Starlight Mansion - and are let in by Prescott's butler. When they enter, The Misfits are disgusted about all the Jem fan memorabilia Prescott has, and who soon joins them. Pizzazz and the Misfits are bit overwhelmed by Prescott's enthusiasm, having his money ready to find out who Jem is, only for Pizzazz to tell they don't know yet.
After Prescott throws a childish tantrum, they escort him to a room where Pizzazz informs that they have a plan to uncover Jem's identity and they need Prescott's money to carry it out. Prescott is wary, but Pizzazz goads him to comply. He agrees, only for the condition that Jem won't get hurt, with The Misfits not giving total guarantee on this, but Prescott complies regardless.
Misfits and Prescott turn his manor into replica of Starlight Mansion, including hiring various actors to take roles to impersonate Jem's familiars. The plan goes into effect when Jem exits Starlight Music, with a limo picking her up under the pretense that Kimber sent to pick her up for her birthday. Jem knows its not her/Jerrica's birthday, but she boards the limo regardless. Jem arrives to Prescott's manor turned into Starlight Mansion, where the impostor foster kids quickly drag her in for the supposed birthday party.
Jem is utterly confused by her friends behavior, unaware whats actually happening. After being shown a VHS which compiles made-up life for Jem - even though Jem doesn't exist and is only Jerrica's alter ego - she starts to lose her composure for being overwhelmed by the impostors' gaslighting. At a hidden surveillance room, where The Misfits and Prescott are surreptitious viewing her, Pizzazz is in glee, as Jem is about to admit to her real identity. However, Jem realizes that Kimber doesn't know who she is while Rio does, when the opposite is true. Jem storms off while back at the surveillance room, Pizzazz curses that the impostors blew it.
Prescott is becoming concerned about Jem's mental well-being and wants to call the operation off, with Pizzazz refusing to quit and deeming that they just need to amp the pressure on Jem to make her confess. Subsequently, Pizzazz is reprimanding impostors posing as The Holograms for not delivering the results for the "small fortune" they are being paid. The actress pretending to be Aja complains as she thinks Jem already knows something is off, with Roxy then barking at them to do their job right, with Pizzazz cuing up for the song "Who Is She, Anyway?"
The Holograms impostors tell The Misfits to calm down and that they will try again. Pizzazz pressures them by telling that they only have one chance and if they blow it, they won't be paid. The impostor Raya complains that she promised to pay in the first place, with Pizzazz telling she had her fingers crossed and barks them to get back on it. Meanwhile, the real Holograms start to realize Jem's absence.
When Jem tries to rehearse one of her songs, the impostor Holograms' lack of musical skills becomes apparent and Pizzazz, at the surveillance room, gets frustrated that the impostors may have totally exposed themselves now. The impostor Kimber improvises by pretending to faint, with Jem coming to her help. Feigning delirium, impostor Kimber asks Jem's identity again, with the Misfits thinking this might be the home run. But the plan fails when an impostor Jerrica enters the room, which shocks Jem (as she is the real Jerrica).
Pizzazz gets angry for the impostor Jerrica not only arriving too late, but also blowing impostor Kimber's gambit. Prescott is getting antsy about Jem's well-being with Jetta grabbing him by the collar and telling him to observe without interfering further. Around this time, the real Holograms find out from Synergy where Jem is at, and head out to rescue her, before she reveals her identity.
The appearance of impostor Jerrica makes Jem realize that there is something weird going on and she storms off to try find Synergy. Prescott also panics and tries to go admit to Jem what he has done, only to be stopped by Roxy and Jetta, with Pizzazz then shoving him inside a closet, snarling at him to stay there. Stormer voices concern about Prescott's well-being with Pizzazz telling that he will be free as soon as they find Jem's real identity.
Jem, not having realized that she is not actually at the Starlight Mansion, ends up knocking herself out when trying to get to Synergy's room. She wakes up at a hospital bed, with Holograms around her, who say that there were several actresses posing as the Holograms. Jem almost drops her guard and turns off the holographic guise, unaware that the ruse is still going on, and with the Misfits having her on camera. Just then, the real Holograms burst in, with real Kimber exposing the imposter Kimber and finally ruining the facade for good.
The imposter Holograms flee, and Roxy thinks its time to flee too. However, Pizzazz still thinks the real Holograms might still unwittingly expose the truth. But not so, as Aja reveals that cameras are watching the Holograms, which prompts Roxy and Jetta to run away, while Pizzazz rages about her best scheme getting ruined, as she then kicks a chair and injures her foot. She appears to have left before Holograms find Prescott and free him from the locked closet, with him confessing what he and the Misfits did.

The Presidential Dilemma[]
The Misfits lounging around and watching TV, when Jetta tells one of them to change the channel. When Pizzazz spots news reportage of Jem, she orders to keep it on and the they find out that Jem and The Holograms have been invited to do a music show in Washington D.C. by the United States president. Pizzazz is annoyed to discover this and wants to go to Eric Raymond to do something about it. At Misfits Music offices, Raymond says he can't do anything about it, with Pizzazz deeming that they'll go on their own.
While the United States Congress is having a session when The Misfits interfere just before the House Speaker can end it. Pizzazz addresses the Congress, telling that since Jem and the Holograms are having a show, she wants Congress to vote to allow them to have a concert, with them then singing "Star Spangled Fantasy." Right after they finish, the security detains them and escorts them out, with Pizzazz asking the Congress to vote if they can stay there, only for the Congressmen to all boo The Misfits out of the building.
The Misfits then disguise themselves as cleaning ladies and overhear Jerrica and co. carrying parts for Synergy. They infer its something important. They return to their hotel room and spy on The Holograms with binoculars, seeing them assembling Synergy. Pizzazz is on the phone, calling Eric about it, who recognizes it as the thing one of this saboteurs spotted during the "Truly Outrageous" story-line. Presumably, Eric uses his connections to trick Jerrica and co. out so that Government agents can confiscate Synergy.
However, The Misfits disappear from the rest of the episode, as Jem and co. are busy dealing with another villain, a thief named Washington Marauder.
