There's not enough room for the two of us, lieutenant.
~ The Murray Residence Alternate to Thatcher Davis.
Afraid of your own reflection, lieutenant? Dead or alive... you're no use to these people. A man without a purpose... in a world that doesn't need him. A scared boy with a gun. Sound familiar?
~ "Thatcher Davis" comparing Thatcher to Mark,

An unnamed Alternate, nicknamed as "The Murray Residence Alternate" by fans, is a major antagonist in the analog horror web series The Mandela Catalogue.

After being manifested through an infant Adam Murray's[1] imagination after watching The Might of the Subconscious, the Alternate would haunt the only human left alive in the place, Jude Murray. Panicked, Murray called the MCPD, resulting in their Lieutenant, Thatcher Davis, and their Sergeant, Ruth Weaver, entering the scene.

The Alternate, after apparently causing Weaver's death, would go on to stalk Thatcher Davis for the next seventeen years.

Biography[]

The Mandela Catalogue Vol. 333[]

The Murray Residence Alternate was manifested through Adam Murray's imagination after watching The Might of the Subconscious prior to being kidnapped by Stanley/The Intruder. After which, it decided to haunt the only human that was left alive in the household, Jude Murray.

Jude contacts the MCPD in an attempt to survive the Alternate's attack, describing that his appearance doesn't resemble anything or anyone he has ever seen before in his life. Intrigued by this information, Lieutenant Thatcher Davis would mistaken the Alternate by a simple burglar or home intruder, and recruited Sergeant Ruth Weaver to assist on the investigation.

The alternate directly appears when Thatcher and Ruth Weaver's investigation of the house, after Ruth goes missing. Thatcher calls out into the house, but he gets the response from the alternate that uses his voice. As Thatcher becomes frustrated, the alternate impersonates the phone call between Thatcher and Jude before running up to Thatcher and singing Amazing Grace in a low, gravelly voice. Thatcher Davis goes into the underground of the Police Station and there he sees the alternate floating towards him until cornering Thatcher Davis. From Thatcher's chest camera we can see the alternate stretch its face and laugh maniacally before being shot by Thatcher, which does no damage. As near the same with Mark’s initial confrontation in Volume 1, the camera cuts to black and a message of "Uh oh! Bad decision Thatcher!" appears onscreen. The alternate copies the appearance of Ruth before telling Thatcher "there's not enough room for the two of us lieutenant". We then see the alternate twitching before staring into Thatcher's chest cam. The footage freezes on it smiling.

Every Day gets Brighter[]

After fighting against Thatcher Davis, the Murray Residence Alternate has impersonated Thatcher Davis and is wandering about. The actual Thatcher Davis describes the pain that his encounter with the Alternate and the toll that it took on his sanity.

The Mandela Catalogue Vol. 4[]

The Alternate's effect on Thatcher's mind is further showcased in Volume 4, where he makes a drawing of the Alternate in its original appearance.

The Murray Residence Alternate takes Thatcher's chest camera, turns into Thatcher and films himself saying to call off all units. When the real Thatcher Davis tries to fall asleep, he sees the Murray Residence Alternate in a dark spot of his room, looking at him. The Murray Residence Alternate gets nearer to Thatcher Davis and fully transforms itself in an imperfect copy of the lieutenant, mocking him.

The Mandela Catalogue Vol. 5[]

Appearance[]

The Alternate takes the form of a lanky, tall and malnourished humanoid with pale white skin. As shown multiple times throughout the Volume 333 video, it's size is enormous, easily towering over regular humans such as Thatcher Davis even when leaning down. It has two big, fully-black eyes and a big mouth contorted to mimic a smile. It lacks any kind of hair, accessory, or anything that might give it any semblance of humanity.

When disguising itself as the Lieutenant, the resemblance is notably imperfect so is making no effort to chisel out the details for a correct assimilation, with only perfectly mimicking Thatcher's voice for misdirection and torment.

Personality[]

The Murray Residence Alternate is, as any other Alternate, it’s a very intelligent being, capable of easily manipulating his victims. This incredible ability to perfectly manipulate others come from his great charisma and the deceitful nature of the alternates. It has also shown to be a consummate sadist, showing it by how maniacally laughed and creepily smiled while it was fighting Thatcher Davis in Vol. 333. It likes to mock Thatcher Davis, making him feel small and weak through nihilsm, telling him that he "has no purpose" and he is "no use" and that other people don't need him.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Flight/Levitation: The Alternate has the ability to float, as shown in its confrontation with Thatcher Davis.
  • Voice Mimicry: The Alternate can perfectly imitate other people's voice. The voice’s it can mimic are numerous kidnapped children, Mark, Cesar, Ruth, and Thatcher.
  • Shapeshifting/“Assimilation”: The Alternate was shown to, besides being able to shapeshift like any other Alternate, morph his body manually, as shown when he forces an unnaturally large smile on its face with its fingers.
  • Inhuman Invulnerability: After Thatcher attempts to shoot it, it brushes it off as nothing and even frantically laughs at his face.
  • Inhuman Intellect: The Alternate is inhumanly intelligent like the rest of it’s kind, as shown that it killed Ruth without making a single sound.

Trivia[]

  • The Murray Residence Alternate and Cesar's Alternate are often theorized to be one and the same, despite this Alternate being manifested through the Might of the Subconscious broadcast, which happened after Mark Heathcliff's suicide.
  • According to WeirdWock during the Alex Kister drama; The Murray Residence Alternate, Cesar's Alternate and N is the same character.[2]But Alex confirmed this was fake. Also the WeirdWock's messages were also likely not from WeirdWock because WeirdWock is still part of Alex's team and there is no reason for Alex to tell that much of story to WeirdWock.
  • Since Thatcher Davis is a reflection of King David, most probably the Alternate is a reflection of Goliath, a giant that King David had notoriously slayed in his childhood against all feasible odds. With that said, if this is the case, it's definitely possible for Thatcher to defeat it the same way later on in the series.
