The Nameless One is a major antagonist in the Minecraft franchise's Dungeons sub-series.
They're the immortal ruler of a nameless kingdom drowned by the sands of a desert not too far from the Cacti Canyon.
Biography[]
Past[]
The Nameless One once ruled over a kingdom now lost to time. During their tenure, a temple was built in the vast, now Husk-filled deserts. This Desert Temple was, for all of its importance, constructed and furnished by the kingdom's most skilled artisans. The reason for the structure's importance was due to its destined role as a landmark, throne, and resting place for The Nameless One and his kingdom as a whole.
And so, once The Nameless One's temple was completed, they began to rule over their dominion. It's unknown when they started to practice necromancy, but perhaps it was in their supposed latter years, in an attempt to prolong themself, as one usually would. Though this isn't unlikely, there is a chance that The Nameless One and their people simply had necromancy as a "staple" of their culture, as in the Minecraft world's context, necromancy seems to refer more to the mere summoning of undead rather than the raising of already passed beings. Anyhow, a personal guard had been assembled for The Nameless One: the Vanguard. Armed with their blades and shields, the Vanguard adamantly served them through thick and thin, through sorrow and misfortune, and even through life and death.
The necromancer would live long beyond their years, degrading into a skeleton and becoming the leader of the undead. Their terror was known all over the Overworld, with their hordes being feared. Yet, they sought one thing: the ability for the dead to walk upon sun-kissed soil. Little did they know, but, in waiting, this opportunity would come.
Minecraft Dungeons: The Rise of the Arch-Illager[]
Eventually, the opportunity came in the form of the Heart of Ender and the Arch-Illager; the latter would form an alliance with The Nameless One, utilizing the former's abilities to give the undead immunity to sunlight. And thus, a new reign of terror would begin.
Minecraft Dungeons[]
The previously mentioned alliance would later be broken in Minecraft Dungeons; however, it remains unclear who broke the alliance first, though it can be presumed that it was the Illagers. The Illagers proceeded to rummage around for anything remotely powerful in the Desert Temple where the Nameless One resided, with the end goal of acquiring the Nameless One's magical staff. The Hero was then sent to destroy the staff before it could get into the hands of the Arch-Illager. After fighting through hordes of hostile mobs and getting through traps, the hero finally arrived at the Nameless One's throne room, where they witnessed the necromancer slumbering. Suddenly, they awoke from their sleep of undeath, and so did their vanguard kneeling before them. A battle ensued, resulting in The Nameless One's defeat. The Hero then destroyed the staff, thereby preventing the Illagers from attaining powers so overwhelming that the Overworld would be theirs should they have gotten it.
Trivia[]
- Because of their ability to summon undead mobs, some fans have speculated that the existence of hostile undead in the Overworld is the Nameless One's doing.
- Unlike most necromancers in popular culture, the Nameless One and their necromancers summon the undead instead of resurrecting already dead beings.
