The Necrolord is a major antagonist in animated web series Songs of War, serving as the main antagonist of the Felden arc.
He is the leader of the Necromancers, a cult-like group of sorcerers that use Wither skulls to command legions of undead. Using his Necrostaff, he controls the undead and makes them more dangerous than ever before, providing them gear and making coordinated. Over years of running his secret operations, he amassed a gigantic horde of advanced undead; planning on using them to invade the Felden.
Appearance[]
Similar to the usual Necromancer outfit, the Necrolord wears a damaged, dark grey robe. Despite his arms and chest suggesting he is a skeleton, it is likely just clothes designed to look as such. He is also the only Necromancer with visible eyes under his mask. He stands three blocks tall, similar to Ardoni.
He is equipped with an iron halberd on his back, although he is never seen using it. His main piece of equipment is the Necrostaff, seemingly the remains of a fallen Wither mob. The staff's eyes and mouth glow white when controlling the undead.
Personality[]
“ | Then... they came from the tunnels. Undead... using weapons and wearing armor. | „ |
~ Lucan talking about the advanced undead. |
Not much is known about the Necrolord due to his limited screentime and having no lines. As his nickname would suggest, he is an extremely powerful Necromancer, leading hordes of undead with his Necrostaff, making them more coordinated and geared with weapons. He strategic and secretive, able to keep his operations mostly hidden and sneak to Felden undetected. His main base is built deep in Mt. Tempus, a place nobody would suspect.
For an unknown reason, he seeks destruction on the entire kingdom of Felden, building a massive undead army to do so. Making sure nobody interferes with his operations, ordering his minions to deal with anyone problematic such as Niika, attempting to assassinate her and burn down her treehouse. In the end, his ultimate goal to destroy Felden was successful.
History[]
Even though he isn't shown on-screen much, he is responsible for all of the Necromancer and undead's actions, including the attack on the Basalt Mines and sending his minions to hunt down Niika.
The Necrolord makes his first physical appearance in a secret base on Mt. Tempus. He stood up and raised the Necrostaff, attracting the attention of the undead and his Necromancer minions. While doing this, he spots a lone Necromancer on a ledge, who was actually Lucan in disguise, but he did not think much of it. Off-screen, he tasked Xaria and another Necromancer to burn down Niika's treehouse.
Presumably after learning about Lucan infiltrating the secret base, the Necrolord set out with all of his minions to attack Felden. At night, Niika spots the Necrolord on a cliff to her horror. He raised his staff, causing a massive horde of undead to pour out of a cave. When Kiyoshi and his forces return from Mt. Tempus, they are met with Felden in ruins; buildings destroyed and burning. The Necrolord's whereabouts after the attack are unknown.

Trivia[]
- His design based off the Dreadlord's skin from Animation Life, being a less colorful version of it.
- Despite it not being revealed in Season 1, he is actually a Voltaris Ardoni in disguise, with his real name being Xan Voltaris. This is hinted at by mainly his glowing red eyes and height.
- In the scripts, it is revealed that he was fascinated by the Nether controlling the undead during the Great War. Once the war was over, the undead were left in the Overworld, allowing Xan to spend his entire life studying and leading them.
- He was planned to be killed when Pythus and the Nether attacked. A nearby Wither would have reclaimed control over the undead, ordering them to attack the Necrolord. His demise is rather poetic; being killed at the hands of the same creatures he spend his entire life training.
- Even though he is the driving force behind the Felden storyline, he appears less than a minute on-screen.
- Although not shown, his Wither staff's mind control capabilities actually work on Felinas and presumably humans too, which would have been shown in the first episode of Season 2, where he hypnotizes Niika in Fort Zuka.
- In a fan-made episode of Season 2 made by The Knight of Ardonia, the Necrolord is voiced by Justin Odel. Since many of the original series creators, including the voice actors, worked on this project, Justin might have been intended as the original voice for the Necrolord.
