~ The North Wind to Greg. |
The North Wind is a minor antagonist in the Cartoon Network miniseries Over The Garden Wall. He is a giant cloud-like humanoid that tried to destroy Cloud City from Greg's dream.
He is voiced by Mark Bodnar.
Appearance[]
The North Wind appears to be a giant grey humanoid. He has a rotund body, a big dark-grey nose, a white beard & mustache, white eyebrows, and a bald head. Sometimes he has a ghost-like tail, and sometimes he has feet.
Personality[]
The North Wind is a sadistic tormentor who takes pleasure in disturbing the peace in Cloud City. He uses his abilities to torture the residents of Cloud City, as evident when he used his lighting to scare the cowering citizens. He's also quick to take violent action against those who upset him, such as when Greg blew a raspberry at him, causing him to chase Greg with intent to inflict harm.
Being created form Greg's mind, the wind has a very goofy-aesthetic about himself. It should be noted that most of the Wind's actions were not directly violent, using his powers to scare the citizens rather than inflict direct harm. He also speaks in a very cartoony voice, giving off the inflection of a mean bully rather then a terrifying monster.
Biography[]
After Greg is blown from a tuba, he is knocked into a pair of gates, causing them to break open. A song then begins to play about the North Wind while he struts out of his imprisonment. Greg attempts to fight back with other citizens by firing cannons at him, but he easily blows these away. The North Wind continued to torment the citizens while they look on in terror. Eventually, Greg teases him, causing The North Wind to become angry and chase after Greg. They chase each other for a while until until they finally confront each other inside a house. Greg manages to get the upper-hand and put him inside of a bottle, being rewarded after doing so.

Trivia[]
- Although he demonstrated to have the ability to levitate, he decided to chase Greg on foot, even leaping over a crevice at one point.
- The North Wind is most likely Greg's mind's interpretation of the cold wind that was blowing on him while he was asleep.
