“ | Yes. It is a disease. Finds a crack in your mind. It crawls inside and never lets go. A parasite. It will consume you bit by bit. Then swallows your empty shell into The ARK. | „ |
~ Skully on what The Operator does. |
The Operator is the overarching antagonist of the horror webseries Marble Hornets and the main antagonist of its comic book series.
They are a mysterious parasitic entity that stalked the cast and crew of the independent film Marble Hornets, slowly driving them insane, particularly director Alex Kralie.
They were portrayed by an uncredited actor, as the creators felt that revealing who played them would "ruin the fun".
Description[]
- Main article: Slender_Man_(Creepypasta)#Appearance The Operator's design is similar to Slender Man's appearance with a tall, suit wearing monster.
The Operator wears a black suit and tie with a white undershirt though sometimes he's shown with . The Operator is tall compared to the average human, being around 7-9 foot tall. The Operator has a blank face though sometimes has a faint nose, eyeholes shapes and is bald with white skin though in some entries it appears to have a fair-light skintone.
Personality[]
The Operator is an enigmatic entity that infects the minds of their victims, feeding off their bodies and minds before callously throwing them into the ARK once he’s done with them, using them as ways to spread his infection to get more and more victims. The Operator shows a special kind of sadism at times, using his teleportation on Tim, who he has been feeding off of for years when he was a child, when dragging him around, and in a specific moment in the comics, infected Jessica with the memory of Amy just to have it torn away, and mockingly tilted it's head at a dying Jay before dragging him to the ARK. The Operator showed some amount of protectiveness towards Alex, which Tim attributed to Operator using Alex to get more victims for Operator to use and feed off. For the most part, The Operator stands and teleports around and is infact, mute though possibly communicates in other ways and so is more of a force than a character and usually has others do its work for it. The Operator has only been shown to more often than not use his mind abilities to attack his victims rather physically attacking them though there are cases of him attacking such as giving Alex a head injury leading to bleeding from the head.
The Operator appears to generally prefers watching his victims struggle to find a way to stop him and suffer from fear from him.
Biography[]
Past[]
The Operator’s origins are unknown as of now, but according to Skully, The Operator is a parasitic being who invades the minds of people, seemingly broken people, and slowly consumes their body and sanity, before shoving their bodies into the ARK, a pocket dimension voided of time, perception, and logic. It is revealed that The Operator has stalked Tim ever since he was a child in a mental asylum, which Tim assumed were just hallucinations. Right before the start of the series, The Operator targeted Alex Kralie, the director of Marble Hornets, a small short film he made in college.
The ARK[]
The ARK is a realm that "Shells" are captured by The Operator go. It's likely created by The Operator or at the least, he has some control over it. It's possible that The ARK could refer to multiple things, either the realm itself or the large sinkhole like pit that appears to either be living or have something living within it that can be "fed." It's very likely the large pit is in the same ARK realm that locations such as black voids that can barely be illuminated by flashlights, large drops, large bodies of water, false locations facades, and discolored forest are in that we see The Operator torment people by teleporting and dragging people through. Jessica, Alex, likely Tim/Masky, Brian/Hoody, Skully, Adam, David, and obviously Operator have been to the ARK.
Events of Marble Hornets[]
The Operator made his debut in the second episode/first entry of Marble Hornets, stalking Alex throughout his documenting himself, his first ever appearance at Alex’s house on his porch looking away from the house, looking for him before quickly turning his head towards Alex. Besides Entry 2 where Operator isn't seen though Alex states he saw a man outside under a streetlight thats most certainty The Operator.
The Operator makes a habit of stalking Alex Kralie and other characters.
The series reveals that The Operator may have been using Alex to kill the others, seen in Entry #86. Alex says that he was trying to help the others by killing everyone that has a connection to The Operator. Tim disagrees and tries to say that The Operator was only using him, only to be interrupted by The Operator himself.
Entry #86 reveals that the Operator used Alex to spread in power and appearance by effectively "infecting" individuals with his presence. These individuals, whom Tim called "Source(s)", are individuals who have seen or become stalked by The Operator. As a result, they begin carrying his presence with them, causing anyone who meets them to become a potential new victim and, thus, new sources.
Alex says that the only way to hold his spread is for all sources to die. Tim states that it is physically impossible to find and kill every source. There is also no practical way to be certain that every 'infected' individual would either have visible symptoms or even know.
Appearances[]
The Operator has 34 appearances in Marble Hornets, one appearance in Totheark, and appears in Issue #1, #3, #3.5, #4 of the comics.
- Entry #1, The Operator's first series appearance. He is seen staring nowhere in particular on the porch of Alex Kralie as Alex records him. Operator quickly turns his head towards Alex's location. The Operator is not seen in Entry #2 though Alex drives to a streetlamp where he apparently saw The Operator standing.
- Entry #4, The Operator speedwalks past the camera.
- Entry #6, Operator is seen looking through a window ominously. This likely takes place after Entry #1 at Alex's home.
- Entry #7, While Alex and Brian are doing lines for Marble Hornets, Operator is seen in the distance behind a building.
- Entry #10, Operator has two appearances in this episode, being his first multiappearance. He is seen faintly, only visible due to a flashlight and once again closer to the cameraman and much more visible. Similar to most of Operator's appearances to this point, there is no audio.
- Entry #11, Through out this episode, there are several possible Operator appearances such as hidden in the dark next to a window though a more obvious appearance of the Operator is a shadow and gust of breeze of a figure passing by.
- Entry #12, The Operator is seen in the background with apparently only Alex and possibly the camerawoman noticing him.
- Entry #13, The Operator appears behind a chainfence and later next to a building to the horror of the recorder.
- Entry #14, One of the Operator's most close appearances, The Operator is seen pushing open Alex Kralie's door, seemingly peering in stealthfully behind fully walking in and sneaking into the darkness though disappearing when a light is turned on. Alex appears with blood coming from scalp from an unknown injury likely caused by either ToTheArk or The Operator.
- Entry #17, While Tim is standing infront of a window while the Marble Hornets crew practice lines, The Operator is in the window, hidden by shrubbery.
- Return, The first ToTheArk video, The Operator walks passed a seemingly dazed Jay and towards the camera before turning to its left and the video ending with the words "found you."
- Entry #23, The Operator attempts to attack Jay, putting its arm out to grab him.
- Entry #26, While Amy is recording Alex, she turns around to see The Operator standing behind her in a doorway. She runs away in fear asking Alex what The Operator is though doesn't get an answer as she turns to it one last time as the video stops and glitches out.
- Entry #29, The Operator is seen standing at the end of The Rosswood Tunnel, a reoccurring location in the series.

The Comics[]
The Operator first appears in possibly a hallucination though likely actually there in Issue #1 while Jessica Locke is having a panic attack behind Taylor while she's on a morning jog. He doesn't appear to do much of anything besides standing near the two women.
He is not present in Issue #2. He appears to Adam Collins after he is taken to The ARK. Jessica watches Entries of Marble Hornets and a illustrated version of Entry #7 is shown.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Teleportation: The Operator has been shown to suddenly appear and disappear right after, usually scaring his targets.
- Madness Inducement: From causing a person to develop a persona to people having paranormal panic attacks, The Operator's mere presence causes people to be driven insane.
- Technopathy: The Operator can cause cameras to glitch, distort, flicker, audio break-up, and other digital distortions. It appears that The Operator can control this and its not just a natural effect of his presence as the glitching is not a constant byproduct of his appearance.
- Memory Wiping: Shown frequently in several entries, The Operator can cause a person to forget several days worth of events in moments. It seems that the memory issues occur when The Operator directly attacks a person.
- Possession: The Operator is able to possess a person's body, causing their eyes to turn fully white and harm others. He is able to possess the body of the deceased and potentially the living.
- Invisibility: The Operator is able to appear invisible to certain people and can only be seen through cameras. It's unknown what prompts him to appear to most and not others directly.

Trivia[]
- The name "The Operator" has thus far never been used in the series (except once on a scribbled sheet drawn by Alex, and in several Totheark videos); the name was ascribed to the character in interviews by series creators Troy Wagner (who portrays Jay) and Joseph DeLage (who portrays Alex).
- The name is infact canon in series, with him being referred by such in The Comics.
- In an interview, Troy and Joseph were questioned about who plays as the Operator. They did not give an answer, originally stating that they would wait until the series was over to reveal the method they used. However, they later decided not to explain as it would ruin the fear that the series induced into the audience.
- They later confirmed The Operator’s creation, stating for the first part of the story, they used pantyhose for the mask and to make it look tall, they glued together stacks of flip-flops, before switching to stilts.
- The Operator is the first villain seen in a Slenderverse web series.
- It should be noted, Marble Hornets isn't necessarily Slenderverse, not being canonically caught in the "web" of the several directly connected series and blogs, with an entirely different Tall Suited Monster being the main catalyst villain of that genre of series.
- It is worth noting that while The Operator and Slender Man may look similar to one another, they are actually two vastly different entities. In fact, the Operator is a mere inspiration of the Slenderman, rather than being the same entities. The depictions of The Operator has influenced the Slender Man mythos mostly as whole, as he was created before the contemporary mythos of the Slender Man started. The creators of Marble Hornets themselves have even stated that the two characters aren't the same beings.
- The ⦻ symbol, used by Alex represents Operator and the fact he has no face with the circle being his head and the X showing there is no face on his face.
