John West, better known as Darius or the Party Hard Killer, is the titular main protagonist of the 2015 stealth-strategy game Party Hard and a supporting character in its 2018 sequel Party Hard 2. He serves a double life as a police officer and as an infamous, ruthless mass murderer who travels across the U.S, violently stopping parties by brutally murdering everyone at it.
He is voiced by an unknown voice actor.
Appearance[]
The Party Hard Killer is a Caucasian man in his forties with short black hair. He has dark eyes, is slim and of above-average height. He wears a dark blue long-sleeved polo shirt, dark navy blue pants and black sneakers. His most notable feature is his plastic white hockey mask, in which he occasionally trades for a red-colored version.
As the "Policeman", he keeps his mask, but his attire changes to that of a typical officer. Using his "Spare Clothes", his polo shirt changes color to white and his pants to pink.
Personality[]
Initially, what we really understand about John is that he is a law enforcement officer dedicated to finding the infamous Party Hard Killer, and that he's discussing about it with a mysterious man named Darius. He sounds monotonous and frustrated, as the killer has ruined his life by killing his daughter.
But as the gameplay progresses, it is revealed that he himself is the Party Hard Killer, and that Darius is his second personality responsible for turning him into a homicidal maniac. Quite unlike John, Darius or The Party Hard Killer, is an extremely cruel, delusional and sociopathic murderer, driven by his petty desire to kill as many people as he can. While his desire was initially to just stop one party in order to get some sleep, he decided he liked the thrill of killing, and rather than stop parties for the sake of getting sleep, he started stopping parties for the sake of killing as many people as he could.
The Party Hard Killer's most defining personality trait is his unwavering brutality, not stopping for anything as he massacres his way through every party he comes across throughout the U.S. The Party Hard Killer is also shown to be very charismatic, as he managed to brainwash West's daughter— Katie, as well as possibly hundreds of other people, calling themselves the 'Party Harders', achieving Messianic levels of reputation throughout the game.
He is also shown to be very intelligent and resourceful, as he is able to massacre the Saw Mill party (which he stumbled upon by accident) without ever getting seen, despite having almost no time to prepare.
Biography[]
Party Hard[]
The story opens with a conversation between Darius and John West, an inspector on a case of mass murders at parties across the United States. The first party to be attacked was a college graduation, where all the young people there had been brutally killed, and the inspector's daughter, Katie West, had been reported missing. Because of this trauma and stress, John was taken off the case. Certain that the next party to be attacked would be in Las Vegas, John West decided to head there to see if he could capture the killer, but all he found was more bodies on the ground. After this massacre, the killer was recognized by the media and came to be called the “Party Hard Killer”, but even so, it didn't discourage people from throwing parties, even though anyone could be the murderer.
After two incidents that took place in a skyscraper and on a cruise, John West had discovered that the maniac had a follower; his own daughter who had been previously reported missing, Katie, who accompanied the killer to find out about his methods, and to help him on his killing missions. When John had finally found the killer, he realized that he was gazing at his newest masterpiece - West's daughter who lay dead in his arms. Even though he had every reason and opportunity to kill him, John was still a policeman, so all he did was arrest him and drive him to a police station. However, in the middle of the road, West crashes the car into a tree after seeing a strong stream of light, giving the maniac a chance to escape.
The killer then discovers a group of people who worship him as a savior who brings silence and peace to the streets, these people are called the “Party Harders”. After discovering that a party was to be hosted in a subway station by these same people, John West rushed there in order to prevent another massacre, but who he found there was Darius. The two have a suspicious conversation, and Darius claims that John is not so different from him, and that John always had the chance to stop him, even though John didn't believe it. Darius continues and says that sooner or later, John would realize that he liked the taste of adrenaline, of blood on the ground, and that his main motivation is that the world is rotten, and people only care about themselves.
Even though John is trying to make sense of it all, Darius says he's just trying to convince himself that what they're doing is wrong. In the end, John West realizes that he was only talking to himself, to his other personality, Darius, and that he is the culprit behind it all. With that, John simply decides to go home to rest, ending his killing spree.
Party Hard 2[]
Ten years after the first game, the Party Hard Killer reappears with more victims, but this time it's not John West who's carrying out this new wave of murders. It is revealed that it is actually a former pharmaceutical plant worker who is committing the crimes, called Evan Thrace, who also has another personality by the name of Darius. Evan's girlfriend, Marena, gets in touch with John, who is now a homeless roamer, to tell Evan the truth, who ends up discovering that John's Darius persona was the side effect of a drug called "Rhino", which is a strong, unlicensed anti-depressant that had been prescribed by his therapist Dr. McBride, who, coincidentally, was also Evan's and had prescribed the medicine for him. West finds himself in a normal state, no longer suffering from his other personality, but is strongly mourning the death of his daughter Katie, referring to her as "someone very special". Although he cannot compensate with his own past, John inspires Evan to go after Dr. McBride directly and make her pay for destroying the lives of her patients.
